Parkersburg house fire claims life

PARKERSBURG — An unidentified woman died in a house fire Thursday morning in Parkersburg.

Parkersburg Fire Chief Jason Matthews said firefighters were dispatched to 3617 Plum St. at 11:45 a.m. and arrived on scene three minutes later. The fire was under control within 10 minutes, he said.

The flames did not spread to neighboring structures, but heat from the blaze melted siding on a house next door, Matthews said.

The victim was found in a bedroom, which was where the fire originated from, Matthews said.

“The bedroom is heavily damaged, and there is smoke and heat damage throughout the single-story house,” he said.

Because the fire involved a death, the West Virginia Fire Marshal’s Office was notified and is assisting with the investigation, Matthews said.

The cause of the fire remained under investigation Thursday.

Officials are waiting on the state medical examiner’s report before releasing additional information on the fire’s cause and the victim’s name, Matthews said.

Starting at $3.70/week.
