PARKERSBURG -- It's a day for the ladies April 13 at the 14th Ave. Gospel Mission in Parkersburg.
A women's revival conference is scheduled at the church from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., according to conference organizer Kim Rittenhouse.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. and women can walk-in register the day of the conference. The cost is $20 a person.
Women can register online at thegospelmission.com or can call for reservation information at 740-350-8774. The church is located at 4124 14th Ave. in south Parkersburg.
The theme for the event is "Fear… You don't own me…," according to Rittenhouse.
"You can't turn on the television for five minutes where you don't see violence," she said. "Fear consumes us and it is paralyzing. Fear keeps us awake at night. Fear keeps us from being the person God intended us to be."
Speakers for the event are Kay Grose, Christina Douglas, LeAnn Bates and Missi Burch.
"There's going to be a lot of uplifting music but there are going to be some powerful dramas," Rittenhouse said. "There's going to be dramas on the subjects such as suicide, leaving home, bad decisions, depression, Can I walk the Christian Walk.
"A lot of people won't try to walk the Christian Walk because they don't think they can do it and it frightens them," she said. "I like it that our savior was very apprehensive about what waited on him and he agonized about it, yet faced it and went on the cross willingly for us.
"As women we have a lot of fears, worries over our children, jobs, finances and basically just turning on the TV to see the shape of the world we now live in," she said. "Some women are single parents. I want people to know we do not have to face these fears alone, Jesus goes before us and makes a way, he understands that we are fearful, but he says we can trust him. We do not have to be paralyzed with fear, it does not have to own us…we have been bought with a price."
About the speakers:
* Kay Grose: Grose retired most recently from Ohio Valley University after five years where she served in the departments of Admissions and Advancement. Prior to OVU, she served as Director of Marketing for Charton Management Inc. for 21 years.
Grose has been married to her husband, Rick, for 45 years. She is the mother of three sons and seven grandchildren.
* Christina Douglas: A wife and mother, she has been married to her husband, JT, for 18 years. She is the mother of three girls, Tori (16), Carly (14) and Natalie (12). She is an employee of the Bureau of the Fiscal Service and works in the training office.
She attends River Valley Community Church and is a member of the praise teams for River Valley and the assimilation coach for the Mid-Ohio Valley Celebrate Recovery, which is a biblical 12-step recovery program.
* LeAnn Bates: Bates is a licensed counselor and provides therapy for individuals ranging from age 3 to 93.
Bates hosts trainings regarding depression, anxiety, child development, abuse and spirituality, according to counselingandwellnesscenter.com. Her goal is to inspire people to heal spiritually and mentally when life's experiences and challenges seem to be overwhelming.
She is grandmother to three grandchildren.
* Melissa Burch: Married to the pastor of the 14th Ave. Gospel Mission Tim Burch for 32 years and is the mother of three daughters and the grandmother of two. Burch has a deep interest in Women and Children's ministry and recently was a part of the High on Hope Philippines Mission Trip. She was born and raised in Akron, Ohio
