Catholic girls advance in state tourney

CHARLESTON – Parkersburg Catholic’s Madeline Huffman scored 27 points and Aaliyah Brunny scored 20 during the Crusaderettes’ 70-54 win over Summers County in the first round of West Virginia Girls State Basketball Tournament today.

Leslie Huffman added 12 points for Catholic.

Huffman made 10 of 15 shots, including 4 of 7 in three point shots.

Brunny also had 10 rebounds and five assists to lead the Crusaderettes in those categories.

The win advances Catholic to Friday’s semifinal round when the Crusaderettes play Morgantown Trinity, a 65-57 winner over Magnolia as Reagan Sharp scored 40 points to offset a 45-point performance by Magnolia’s Madi Winters.
