Belpre Homecoming announces entertainment
BELPRE — The entertainment at this year’s Belpre Homecoming Festival will feature a mixture of old and new music.
The 86th annual Belpre Homecoming Festival will be Aug. 2-4 at Civitan Park in Belpre, with three days of entertainment, rides and other activities and attractions.
Chuck Lipps, entertainment chairman for the festival, announced the main entertainment lineup Tuesday.
This year’s entertainers will be Shane Runion Band, Rick K. and the Allnighters and Full Circle Band.
“What we tried to do when putting together the schedule this year was looking at giving an opportunity for everybody to have a variety of music,” he said.
Shane Runion Band will open the festival with a performance at 8 :30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 2, on the main stage at Civitan Park.
Lipps described the Shane Runion Band, based in Portsmouth, Ohio, as an up-and-coming new country act. Runion is a past winner of the Ohio State Country Showdown who moved to Nashville to pursue a country music career. Runion’s current single, “Tattoos,” is climbing the country charts, he said.
Perennial local favorites Rick K and the Allnighters will perform at 8:30 p.m. Friday, Aug. 3. The band is known for performing music from the ’50s and ’60s, doowap and other types of music.
Lipps said the group closed out last year’s Belpre Homecoming by performing the Saturday night concert.
Due to weather concerns, the festival’s classic car show had been moved from its usual Friday slot to Saturday night, coinciding with the Rick K concert and the combination was popular with visitors, Lipps said.
This year, organizers decided to combine the two events again for the Friday night slot in hopes of another positive response from the crowds, he said.
Full Circle Band will close out the festival with a performance at 8:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 4.
Lipps described Full Circle Band as a southern and classic rock band performing music from the ’70s and ’80s, including songs by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Kansas and Boston from that period. The band features a lead vocalist, two drummers, two lead guitarists, a bass player and a keyboard player.
Lyndsay Dennis. who has taken over as the new events coordinator for this year’s festival, said the history of the festival and the community will remain a focus for Belpre Homecoming but she is also looking for new things to add this year and in the future.
As it becomes available, more information about this year’s Belpre Homecoming will be on the festival’s Facebook page and on the Belpre Area Chamber of Commerce website at belprechamber.com.
