VIENNA -- Hundreds of area residents attending the Camden Clark Community Health and Wellness Day learned important information about their health and locally available services to help maintain it on Saturday at the Grand Central Mall in Vienna.
CCMC partnered with the GCM to expand the health and wellness fair the hospital has been holding for over two decades to reach more of the public. Other partners included The Parkersburg News and Sentinel, CAS Cable, Parkersburg Cardiology and Results Radio/WXIL.
Jill Davis, of Mineral Wells, was making her first visit to the health and wellness event and thought it was great.
"It's very organized and nice … It's informative," she said.
"I'm all for it," Vienna resident Jeff Morgan said of Saturday's event.
An employee of Westbrook Health Services, Morgan said he believes physical health and mental health "go hand in hand." He has attended similar health and wellness events previously and thought the expanded program offered Saturday by CCMC and the mall was well done.
"I think a convenient location is the key to get people in," he said.
Jordan Swiger, of Parkersburg, said he thought Saturday's event was very well rounded and offered a lot of resources to people in a very accessible format.
"I think it's great for the community. It offers quite a bit of things that may be accompanied by a charge normally that you can get for free here at the fair," he said.
The Community Health and Wellness Day featured about 75 exhibitors, vendors and demonstrators, along with various types of health screenings, from free EKGs to low cost blood work. There were also cooking demonstrations, exercise demonstrations and other activities.
Along with stations devoted to programs and services available through CCMC, there were also a number of outside vendors, exhibitors and demonstrations from throughout the Mid-Ohio Valley, along with service agencies like the American Red Cross, the United Way, and others.
Louis Hare, director of the CCMC Health and Wellness Center, said the event is a way to educate the community about various health issues and to provide information about the services available locally.
"It's given us a great chance to showcase what we do," he said of Saturday's event at the mall.
"We're so happy that we're having this huge event here, that they chose Grand Central Mall to be hosting this event," said Mindy Fluharty, marketing director for Grand Central Mall.
One of the activities at Saturday's Community Health and Wellness Day was the announcement of an expansion to the longtime Solemates walking program at the mall, through a partnership between CCMC, the mall and Highmark Blue Cross Blue Shield.
The goal is to make it more inclusive and offer a variety of incentives and affinity packages, such as discounts and health information for signing up, organizers said. There will be new logos and t-shirts associated with the program. New activities will include weekday morning walks at the mall, a weekday downtown lunch walk and a weekend walk at the mall.
