PARKERSBURG -- In recognition of National Volunteer Week April 23-29, Camden Clark Medical Center honored its Auxiliary Volunteers at their 65th Annual Meeting and Volunteer Appreciation Luncheon on Friday at the Nemesis Shrine.

The Auxiliary gave an annual financial gift of $81,500, of which $75,000 was utilized for the purchase of a specialized medical transport van to deliver patients from the hospital to their physicians, homes, and nursing care facilities.

According to Ambulance Services Director Larry Stephens, having the wheelchair accessible transport van will be greatly utilized by the hospital.

"This will not only help to avoid the large expenses of transporting patients by ambulance, but will also free up another ambulance needed for providing emergency care in our community," Stephens said.

In addition, Auxiliary President Mark Jenkins presented $5,000 to the Camden Clark Foundation.

Also, three $2,500 "Leo D. Carsner" scholarships were awarded to area college students pursuing degrees in healthcare professions. Those recipients include Sophia Kinnard, a junior Nursing student at Mt. Vernon Nazarene University; Cari Matheny, a junior Nursing major at the University of Charleston, and Brianna Butler, a pre-med freshman at Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va.

During the past year, Camden Clark's adult and teen volunteers contributed 42,712 hours of service to the hospital. Volunteers raise funds for the hospital in a variety of ways, including through their gift shop and through special sales such as uniforms, shoes, jewelry, books, candy and flowers.
