PARKERSBURG -- Students at West Virginia University at Parkersburg participated in the 2017 Earth Day Expo on Wednesday.
The annual event, in the College Activities Center, showcases local "green" resources and organizations and seeks to educate the community on problems and opportunities in the area.
Exhibitors included the Appalachian Renewable Energy Citizens Cooperative, Keep Wayne Wild, the Ohio Valley Environmental Coalition, the Black Diamond Girl Scouts Council and Mid-Ohio Valley Climate Action. As in previous years, WASPER recycling accepted glass, metal, plastic, fabric and electronics.
People participated in a trail walk hosted by Uta Hemple and children participated in making crafts and other activities.
The West Virginia Division of Forestry held its tree seedlings giveaway, while the WVU at Parkersburg Ecohawks gave away packets of pollinator friendly wildflower seeds.
The Ecohawks student organization hosted a screening of the National Geographic documentary "Toxic Waters," concerning the C8 contamination of local water supplies. Callie Lyons, author, and attorney Harry Deitzler held a question and answer session after the screening.
