Bank robbery suspect arrested in Parkersburg

PARKERSBURG — A Morgantown woman was arrested Friday in Parkersburg for allegedly robbing a United Bank location in Morgantown Dec. 20.

The woman, who reportedly has family in the Parkersburg area, is also suspected of robbing two Athens, Ohio banks.

United States Marshals arrested Christine Joy Martin, 30, on Friday at approximately7:30 p.m. at the Parkersburg Economy Inn on Seventh Street, according to Parkersburg Police Chief Joe Martin, no relation to the suspect.

The chief said the suspect was questioned at Parkersburg Police headquarters by Morgantown and Fairmont police detectives.

A call seeking comment from representative of the Morgantown Police Department was not immediately returned Monday.

Martin is also suspected of robbing the 1 N Court St Peoples Bank on Dec. 27 and the Chase Bank at 920 East State Street on Dec. 29 in Athens according to the Athens News.

At both Athens robberies, a woman, alledgedly Martin, presented notes demanding money and fled on foot. No weapons were visible at the three robberies.

She was being held at the North Central Regional Jail in Doddridge County near West Union with no bond. Martin is facing felony bank robbery charges.
