PARKERSBURG – An early-morning fire today destroyed a southside business and closed a nearby school.
Parkersburg Fire Chief Jason Matthews said the call came in shortly before 4:30 a.m. of a structure fire at a chiropractic office behind the Stoney Cafe II in south Parkersburg. Matthews said flames were visible when crews arrived and part of the metal roof of the building collapsed.
One person was inside the office at the time of the fire, but escaped without injury, Matthews said. The fire is still under investigation.
Parkersburg South High School cancelled classes today due to heavy smoke from the fire and roads near the school being closed.
