West Virginia Thespians Festival announces winners

RAVENSWOOD — Area students took to the stage Saturday to compete in the Area II West Virginia Thespians Festival.
The event was hosted by Ripley High School but due to technical difficulties was moved to Ravenswood High School. Students competed in a variety of categories, ranging from costume construction and design to marketing to short film.
The individual winners are:
* Costume Construction: Jane Purkey of Ripley High School.
* Costume Design: Madison McHugh and Ryann Province, both of Parkersburg High School.
* Hand Props: Gavin Honse of Wood County Technical Center, Brent Parkhurst of Parkersburg South High School, and Phillip Essenmacher of Parkersburg High.
* Short Film: Gavin Honse of WCTC and Landen Stengel of Parkersburg High.
* Marketing Advanced: Bairavi Sundaram and Abby Smith, both of Parkersburg High.
* Marketing Novice: J.R. McClay of Parkersburg High.
* Masks: Daisy Lawrence, Harper Lawrence of Parkersburg High.
* Makeup Fantasy: Gavin Honse of WCTC, Haleigh Johnson of WCTC, and Levi Simpkins of RHS.
* Makeup Character: Anne Blizzard and Jane Purkey, both of RHS.
* Makeup Special Effects: Sydney Scarberry of RHS.
* State Thespian officers elected: Madison McHugh and Emily Rexroad, both of Parkersburg High.
The winners will go to the state competition in March at West Virginia University. In addition to the single-category winners, Parkersburg High and Ripley High will advance in the one-act competition category.
