United Way ‘Day of Action’ begins today

PARKERSBURG — United Way Alliance of the Mid-Ohio Valley today will rally hundreds of volunteers throughout the community for the Day of Action.

The annual event brings together volunteers of all ages to create positive change for themselves, their families and their communities on the longest day of the year, providing the most daylight hours to serve others.

Last year, more than 400 United Ways in 49 states and 23 countries mobilized volunteers in their communities on Day of Action. This is the third year United Way Alliance has participated in the worldwide event and the number of participants continues to grow every year.

“We launched Day of Action in the Mid-Ohio Valley in 2016.” said Stacy DeCicco, executive director of United Way Alliance. “It was an overwhelming success with lasting implications. There were volunteers who have served on this day last year who ultimately developed a relationship with the agency and engaged in a long term and ongoing commitment.

“Some of the volunteers continued with volunteer service to the organizations where they gave time on Day of Action. There are volunteers now serving as board members for the agency where they first worked on Day of Action,” she said. “The goal of Day of Action is really about connecting our community with ways to be engaged all year long and we are so proud to see that there were far reaching and long lasting effects from our efforts. It is simply inspiring to see so many people willing to invest in our community by sharing their time and talent.”

Day of Action projects will vary from landscaping, cleaning, assembling materials for clients, painting and more.
