PARKERSBURG -- The WVU Medicine Camden Clark Auxiliary will donate $75,000 for hospital enhancements today at the 66th annual Luncheon to honor auxiliary volunteers.
The auxiliary also will award $15,000 in scholarships and honor volunteer service as part of National Volunteer Week. The luncheon will be held at the Nemesis Shrine Center.
Volunteer Manager Margie Reed said the Camden Clark Auxiliary will make a financial gift of about $75,000 to the hospital, which will be presented to Sean Smith, vice president business development and market integration.
The funds will be used to purchase Panda Warmers for the nursery, new televisions for patient rooms and a piano for use in lobby areas. Another $1,500 will be presented to Human Resources for May's National Hospital Week activities.
Auxiliary Scholarship Chairman Judith Ball will present $10,000 in scholarships to four area college students pursuing degrees in health care professions. Auxiliary President Mark Jenkins will present $5,000 to the Camden Clark Foundation to be used for nursing scholarships and will introduce newly elected 2018-2020 Auxiliary officers and board members.
As part of National Volunteer Week, more than 250 hospital volunteers will be honored for their hours of service during the past year. With 149 active adult volunteers and 103 teen volunteers, the auxiliary combined contributed approximately 40,000 hours of service.
Adult and teen volunteers work throughout the hospital serving more than 35 areas in the medical center in addition to volunteering at community events.
"Our large number of volunteers allow us many ways to raise funds for the hospital. We have a very successful gift shop, plus a variety of special sales throughout the year of uniforms and shoes, jewelry, purses, books and gifts, flowers, and even bedding and a Bingo fundraiser was added this year," Reed said. "Additionally, our shopping cart and our hospitality cart is provided by volunteers for our visitors and employees, who are our most faithful supporters."
