VIENNA -- A variety of health screenings will be available, along with demonstrations and informative displays, during the Camden Clark Community Health and Wellness Day running from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 5 at the Grand Central Mall in Vienna.

Those partnering to put on the Camden Clark Community Health and Wellness Day include Camden Clark Medical Center, Grand Central Mall, The Parkersburg News and Sentinel, Parkersburg Cardiology Associates, CAS Cable and Results Radio/WXIL.

Professionals will be doing a number of free and low cost screenings, such as EKGs from 9 a.m.-noon, with no pre-registration requirement.

While the EKGs are only for the morning hours, other screenings will be offered throughout the day from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Those will include oral health screenings for all ages from local dentistry services, along with screenings involving bone density, skin cancer risks, stroke risks, diabetes, lung capacity, hearing and others.

Roger Lockhart, marketing director for Camden Clark Medical Center, said the event will also be offering a low cost blood screening. To qualify, mall visitors will need to visit and get stamps from 12 of the stations at the mall during Health and Wellness Day on a passport.

Once that is complete, they can turn the passport in for a voucher which can be used to get the blood work done at a later date at one of two locations, the Garfield Medical Complex or Medical Office Building B at Camden Clark Medical Center in Parkersburg.

The cost is $15, which features a comprehensive metabolic panel with CBC (complete blood test), a thyroid test and a lipid profile. Lockhart said voucher holders can also choose to just do one or more tests at $5 each, including the high sensitivity cardiac C-reactive protein test, hemoglobin A1-C (diabetic maintenance screening) or the PSA (prostate specific antigen) test.

Stephanie Taylor, coordinator with the Camden Clark Foundation, said the vouchers for blood work are only good through the end of August and will expire after Aug. 31. Once a voucher is received, a person can call to arrange an appointment at one of the two locations.

Both will also be open until 2 p.m. on Aug. 5 for those interested in using the vouchers immediately, but she warned of the need to fast for at least 12 hours before having blood drawn for those tests.

The Community Health and Wellness Day will feature about 75 exhibitors, vendors and demonstrators. There will be cooking demonstrations, exercise demonstrations and other activities. Along with stations devoted to programs and services available through CCMC, will also be a number of outside vendors, exhibitors and demonstrations from throughout the Mid-Ohio Valley, along with service agencies like the American Red Cross, the United Way, and others.
