Camden Clark Medical Center receives excellence award
PARKERSBURG –WVU Medicine Camden Clark Medical Center has been named a Baldrige Award for Excellence winner for the third consecutive year.
Camden Clark said the Gold level award was for performance excellence through innovation, results and visionary leadership using the Baldrige Excellence Framework by the Columbus- based Partnership for Excellence. The partnership announced six high-performing organizations from Ohio, Indiana and West Virginia as recipients of the 2018 Awards for Excellence.
“Our priority is to continue to advance our quality, safety and service, so we are honored to have received validation for the third year in a row that our healthcare team’s dedication to improving patient care is being recognized,” said Cindy Kern, vice president of Quality and Patient Safety. “We are raising the bar here and to have been awarded the Gold level underscores our journey to excellence and our commitment to improving patient and family-centered care and how we serve this community.”
To receive a Baldrige Award, an organization must have a role-model organizational management system that ensures continuous improvement in delivering products and/or services, demonstrates efficient and effective operations, and provides a way of engaging and responding to customers and other stakeholders.

The Partnership for Excellence is the Ohio, Indiana and West Virginia Baldrige-based awards program. It assists organizations using the internationally-recognized Baldrige Excellence Framework.
The primary product is a comprehensive assessment that helps organizational leaders better understand and prioritize key strengths and opportunities for improvement. While the assessment is the foundation, the partnership’s main focus is on organizational learning, innovation, resource optimization, continuous improvement, and results.
All of the applicants were evaluated by an independent board of examiners in seven areas defined by the Baldrige Excellence Framework: leadership, strategy, customers, measurement, analysis and knowledge management, workforce, operations and results.
The evaluation process for each of the recipients included more than 1,000 hours of review and a three-day visit by a team of examiners to clarify questions and verify information in the application. An independent panel of judges reviewed each organization’s evaluation, approved the final feedback reports, and developed their award recommendations, which were approved by the TPE Board of Trustees.

In the spirit of Malcolm Baldrige, achieving excellence through performance improvement leads to sustainable results and it’s all about our efforts to improve patient and family care that matters here in the Mid-Ohio Valley,” WVU Medicine CCMC CEO Steve Altmiller said.
The Baldrige Excellence Framework has three parts: the Criteria for Performance Excellence, core values and concepts, and scoring guidelines. The framework serves two main purposes to help organizations assess their improvement efforts, diagnose their overall performance management system, and identify their strengths and opportunities for improvement and to identify Baldrige Award recipients that will serve as role models for other organizations.
The Criteria for Performance Excellence is based on the core values of systems perspective, visionary leadership, customer-focused excellence, valuing people, organizational learning and agility, focus on success, managing for innovation, management by fact, societal responsibility, ethics and transparency and delivering value and results

Adding this continues the Baldrige journey and pushes high performing organizations, such as ours, to continue to excel and perform even better in all aspects of patient and family-centered care,” Kern said.
