Woman opens powder coating business in Warren Township
WARREN TWP. — Many women, when they are little girls, are told that they can be anything and do anything when they grow up.
Paige Griffith, who lives and works in Warren Township, is making good on that promise. Griffith not only works full time at Oil Haulers in Belpre but now manages her own side business, IonX Coatings, along with assistance from her boyfriend, Garrett Brown. They opened the shop at the corner of Warren Chapel Road and Grindstone Drive in January.
“I’ve been drag racing 4-wheelers for 11 years now but have been involved in the race world for most of my life. I always knew about powder coatings and the need for it,” Griffith said. “I also knew I wanted to do something on my own and have my own business.”
Griffith comes from a family of entrepreneurs and has a background in business and advertising from studies at Washington State Community College and Marietta College.
Being a female business owner, and eventually growing her business to compete with the other names in the industry, is something that Griffith has dreamed about.
“This is all her,” said Brown. “This is something that she wanted to do. I just help.”
The couple took a week-long training in Tennessee with the Spectra Coat company.
The process of coating consists of applying a dry powder to a metal surface using static electricity and then heating it to cure.
Word is spreading about the type and quality of work that Griffith does.
Tyler Frederick, sales manager at Marietta Polaris, said he would definitely recommend Griffith’s work to any of his ATV or Side By Side clients who are looking for something custom to make them stand out.
“I’m very impressed with how much she knows. You don’t have to explain Side By Side parts, the pricing is very reasonable and they do a great job,” he said. “There are a few coating companies in the area but it all comes down to marketing. (Paige) is definitely knowledgeable about what she’s doing.”
Throughout the racing circuit, participants in the sport definitely know Griffith and her work.
“It’s really like a family,” she said. “I’m really excited to see more women participating and especially the younger generation.”
Griffith not only works on vehicles — she has coated furniture, pedal boards for musicians, belt buckles and even stainless steel thermos bottles.
