Waterford area welcomes Dollar General

Shopping will be a little more convenient for residents in the Waterford, Watertown and Churchtown areas since a Dollar General store opened this month.
The store located near the intersection of Ohio 676 and Ohio 339 had its grand opening and joins six other stores located throughout Washington County, including those in Marietta, Belpre and Lowell.
"We were well-received by the Waterford community at our grand opening this past weekend, where we distributed Dollar General gift cards to the first 50 adult shoppers, among other giveaways," said Mary Kathryn Colbert, public relations manager for Dollar General Corporation. "When choosing store locations, meeting customers' needs is (our) top priority."
Colbert explained that the company looks for locations that offer customers an easy and convenient shopping choice.
"We know convenience is a major factor in our customers' shopping decisions as we generally serve customers within a three to five mile radius, or 10 minute drive. We also take demographic trends, competitive factors, traffic patterns and community concerns into consideration," she said.
The convenience was part of why Waterford resident Diana Sanders popped into the store. "I live about three miles down 339, between Barlow and here but this is the first time I've been here. I brought my mom out shopping and we just thought we would stop in and see what they have," she said.
"This will be nice, it's close and they've got all the essentials."
The larger warehouse-type building has an assortment of home goods, clothing, toiletries, food and even seasonal Easter items. The bright yellow sign really stands out in an area that doesn't have many businesses.
"It really is going to fill a void out in the area," said Washington County Commissioner Rick Walters, a Coal Run resident and member of the Muskingum Valley Beverly-Waterford Chamber of Commerce. "There's a lot of traffic on 339 but a lot of people in that area have to drive out to Barlow or Waterford if they need something."
