PARKERSBURG — The mayors of Parkersburg and Vienna will leave the political stage and enter the theatrical stage with other community leaders on Saturday at the Actors Guild of Parkersburg for Lip Sync Battle 2024.

Mayors Tom Joyce of Parkersburg and Randy Rapp of Vienna are among the local luminaries of various magnitudes participating in the fundraiser for local non-profit organizations and the Actors Guild.

Joyce and Rapp are raising funds for the North Star Child Advocacy Center.

The municipal chief executives will perform “I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow,” a song written in 1928 and used in the 2000 movie “Oh Brother, Where Art Thou” starring George Clooney, Tim Nelson, John Turturro and John Goodman.

“It’s going to be a good show,” Rapp said.

“I Am a Man of Constant Sorrow” is appropriate for the two mayors, Rapp said.

“I think we can do that one pretty well,” said Rapp, who performed in 2016 in the local Dancing with the Stars.

The Blues Brothers was No. 2 on the list.

“I’m not sure Randy can do a cartwheel like John Belushi,” Joyce said.

Both mayors said North Star Child Advocacy Center was a valuable organization for the region. “I’m a 100% believer,” Rapp said.

Joyce said he was asked by Barbara Full to participate in the show. Full was an elementary school teacher in Wood County.

“It’s hard to say ‘no’ to someone who was a beloved elementary school influence from your past,” he said.

Other performers and their non-profit include:

* Lisa Collins, Macy Collins and Liam Kocher. Habitat for Humanity of the Mid-Ohio Valley

* Margaret Hoschar of the Court Appointed Special Advocates. Voices for Children Foundation

* Lisa McCray and Jeremy Roberts of NOE Office Supply. Humane Society of the Ohio Valley

“These are not musicians or actors, so being onstage and performing artistically is a totally different way of viewing them,” Sherry Wilson Braid, event spokesman, said. “It warms your heart to know they are up there solely to raise money for their chosen non-profit and the Actors Guild of Parkersburg.”

Creel and her group will perform a song by The Go-Go’s.

“I recently participated in the ‘Hee Haw’ show and had a blast,” Creel said. “As the owner of a few small businesses in downtown Parkersburg, it is so important to me to support the community any way I can.”

The local band Track 9 will open the show at 5 p.m. with the Lip Sync Battle starting at 6 p.m. Concessions including charcuterie plates, cookies, water, beer and wine will be available.

Tickets are $20 and are available at the Actors Guild website, www.actors-guild.com. Last year’s show sold out a few days before the event.

Pre-show voting will conclude at 3 p.m. Saturday at https://www.actors-guild.com/lip-sync-battle.html.

Votes are $1 each, payable by debit or credit card, and there is no limit to how many votes can be cast. Live voting with cash donations will take place in the lobby of the Actors Guild during the event.

Donations will be half of the judging with the other half determined by judges Kiki Angelos, Joe Oliverio and Anna Hughes, last year’s lip sync winner.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the first-, second- and third-place finishers, $500, $300 and $200, respectively, for the nonprofits. Donations for the People’s Choice Award also will be accepted at the show with the winner receiving a $100 gift card to the Blennerhassett Hotel or restaurant.
