Marietta’s Castle hosting Christmas tours

By Nancy Taylor 2 min read

MARIETTA -- The Castle in Marietta is all dressed up for Christmas, Victorian vibes going strong.

But that doesn't mean it's just for grown-ups.

The Gothic Revival house museum will be a place to take the kids this season, as well, with two new, interactive events designed for them.

Victorian Christmas Tours at The Castle are available 7-8 p.m. Dec. 7 and 14 and 7-8:30 p.m. Dec. 16. Tours begin every 15 minutes and last about an hour.

The tour groups, limited to 10 persons each, will learn how many modern holiday traditions and decorations originated in the Victorian era. There will be a look at how the last family to reside in the house, the Davis family, celebrated Christmas in 1888.

And while the tour guides bring all that historical background to life, there will be two new ways to help children experience Victoriana. The first is a Victorian Christmas craft table where participants can make paper chains, folded flowers and a bulb. Coloring sheets also will be available. The second is a Holiday Scavenger Hunt game that will offer the chance to take home a special ornament.

The Castle decor also involves children, since artistic versions of snowflakes made in 2020 by Washington School and Marietta Elementary, as well as community groups, will be on display. This year, small wreaths made by those groups will be a new addition.

The Castle gift shop will be open during the Dec. 16 event.

Ticket information and ordering are available at mariettacastle.org.

The basic prices are adults, $12; age 13 and under, $9; and age 5 and under, free.

For Castle Members the prices are adults, $10; age 13 and under, $7; and age 5 and under, free. There are several discount codes that can be used with various ticket purchases. Details on the codes are listed on the website.
