PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Cristopher Sánchez returned to form after a couple of shaky outings, allowing only three hits in seven innings as the Philadelphia Phillies beat the Pittsburgh Pirates 8-0 on Tuesday night.
Sánchez (10-3) struck out nine and walked only two in becoming the first pitcher this season to reach 10 wins.
Sánchez was supported by rookie Justin Crawford’s two-run single in the second inning, then a three-run seventh inning outburst that included an RBI double by Trea Turner and RBI single by Bryce Harper.
Pittsburgh starter Bubba Chandler (3-8) pitched well into the seventh inning, but couldn’t escape the Philadelphia rally. Early on, he was undone only by No. 9 hitter Crawford.
The Phillies loaded the bases with two outs in the second, and after fouling off several Chandler pitches, Crawford took another late swipe and managed to hit one down the third base line off the end of the bat. It went for a two-run single that was all that Sánchez needed.
Crawford also doubled to lead off the sixth, but Chandler worked his way out of that jam, striking out both Turner and Kyle Schwarber, then retiring Harper on a soft grounder to second.
Crawford wasn’t finished, however, laying down a perfect sacrifice bunt in the seventh to move pinch-runner Derek Hill into scoring position. A Turner double scored Hill for the third run, and a follow-up single by Schwarber ended Chandler’s night. Pirates reliever Isaac Mattson then gave up a single to Harper and fielder’s choice grounder to Brandon Marsh as the Phillies tacked on two more runs.
Crawford padded the lead with an RBI single in the eighth, his third hit of the game, before Turner, celebrating his 33rd birthday, hit a two-run homer to break the game open.
Phillies reliever Jonathan Bowlan pitched out of trouble to quell the Pirates in the eighth, and 34-year-old journeyman Lou Trivino, promoted from Triple-A Lehigh Valley earlier in the day, closed the Pirates out.
BREWERS 7, REDS 2
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- Jake Bauers went 3 for 4 with a homer and Jackson Chourio also went deep in the Milwaukee Brewers’ 7-2 victory over the Cincinnati Reds on Tuesday night.
Bauer led off the fifth inning with a 425-foot blast to center for his 15th homer of the year. He also singled and scored in the second and fourth innings.
Chourio went 2 for 4 and hit a 404-foot solo shot in the eighth. Sal Frelick went 3 for 4, and Joey Ortiz was 2 for 4 with two RBIs.
Frelick has gone 9 for 18 during a six-game hitting streak.
Cincinnati’s Sal Stewart hit his 16th homer of the season, a 382-foot shot to right in the first inning. Stewart also had an RBI double in the sixth.
Milwaukee’s Brandon Sproat (3-4) threw a career-high 106 pitches and allowed two runs and four hits in 5 1/3 innings. He struck out seven and walked two.
Chad Patrick, Jared Koenig and Grant Anderson teamed up for 3 2/3 innings of shutout relief.
Milwaukee pulled ahead for good by breaking a 1-all tie in the fourth inning with a four-run outburst off Rhett Lowder (3-6) that included six singles and a walk. The first five batters of the inning all singled.
Frelick’s bases-loaded bloop hit to left brought home William Contreras with the go-ahead run. Joey Ortiz followed with a chopper that bounced over the head of Stewart at first, allowing Bauers and Garrett Mitchell to score.
Chourio capped the rally with a single that brought home Frelick.
Lowder had a career-high eight strikeouts, but he allowed six runs, 11 hits and a walk in 4 2/3 innings.
ORIOLES 6, WHITE SOX 1
BALTIMORE (AP) -- Dean Kremer pitched six impressive innings in his return from a quad injury, and the Baltimore Orioles avoided a sweep Wednesday with a 6-1 victory over the Chicago White Sox.
Kremer (1-1) allowed a run and four hits, and Tyler O’Neill homered in Baltimore’s four-run fifth. Noah Schultz (2-5) no-hit the Orioles for four innings but retired only one more batter before being pulled.
Leody Taveras also went deep for Baltimore.
Sam Antonacci led off the game with a home run off Kremer, who was pitching for the first time since April 18. The AL Central-leading White Sox, who had taken the first two games of the series, didn’t do much more after that big swing.
O’Neill -- who made a diving catch in right field with two on and two out in the fourth -- tied it at 1 with a drive to left in the fifth. After a strikeout and a walk, Blaze Alexander hit a single. That was it for Schultz, who had gone through the order twice.
Bryan Hudson came on and allowed a single to Gunnar Henderson that loaded the bases, then Adley Rutschman hit an RBI single and Taylor Ward added a sacrifice fly.
Trevor Richards replaced Hudson and threw a wild pitch that allowed Henderson to score.
Alexander’s RBI triple in the sixth made it 5-1, and Taveras homered in the eighth.
The Orioles optioned right-hander Trey Gibson -- the starter in Tuesday night’s loss -- and left-hander Josh Walker to Triple-A Norfolk before the game. They reinstated Kremer from the injured list and recalled right-hander Cameron Weston from Norfolk.
Former Oriole Bobby Bonilla attended the game, which was fitting since some baseball fans refer to July 1 as “Bobby Bonilla Day” in honor of the deferred money he’s been owed on that day, most famously by the Mets.
