PHILADELPHIA (AP) -- Cristopher Sánchez ran his consecutive shutout innings streak to 50 2/3 before allowing a run and earned the win after J.T. Realmuto and Kyle Schwarber homered in the seventh inning, leading the Philadelphia Phillies to a 3-2 victory over the San Diego Padres on Wednesday night.

Jhoan Duran worked a scoreless ninth for his 14th save.

Sánchez’s streak ranks as the third-best overall dating to the start of the Live Ball Era in 1920 behind the Los Angeles Dodgers’ Orel Hershiser, with a record 59 straight scoreless innings in 1988, and Don Drysdale with 58 in 1968. With a scoreless first inning against the Padres, Sánchez topped Hall of Famer Carl Hubbell’s mark of 45 1/3 in 1933 for longest by a left-hander.

Sánchez (7-2) breezed through six scoreless innings against the Padres before allowing a two-out double in the seventh to Ty France. Sánchez allowed an RBI single to lefty-swinging Jackson Merrill that scored France and accounted for the only run he allowed since the end of April.

Sánchez stood on the mound and finally cracked a smile and fidgeted with the bill of his cap after a nearly minute-long standing ovation from 40,453 Phillies fans. He finished with eight strikeouts.

Sánchez last allowed two runs in the first inning of a 3-2 victory over the Giants on April 30.

Sánchez got the run support he needed for the win in the bottom of the seventh when Realmuto and Schwarber hit solo homers off Padres reliever Jason Adam (2-1) to make it 3-1.

GUARDIANS 5, YANKEES 4

NEW YORK (AP) -- José Ramírez launched one of Cleveland’s three home runs off Gerrit Cole and finished with three hits for the second consecutive game as the Guardians beat New York.

New York slugger Aaron Judge missed his second game in a row because of a bone bruise in his upper right rib that’s been causing pain in his right shoulder. Judge was scheduled to see a specialist Wednesday and the Yankees were still awaiting more information, manager Aaron Boone said before the game.

Kyle Manzardo homered for the second straight night in the Bronx and doubled twice. Rhys Hoskins also went deep and drove in three runs for the Guardians, who improved to a major league-best 10-1 on the road since May 6.

Cleveland, which has won 15 of 20 overall, will go for a three-game sweep Thursday afternoon in this matchup of American League contenders. Gavin Williams (9-3) allowed three runs and struck out six over 5 1/3 innings to win his fourth consecutive start for the Guardians, who won a series at Yankee Stadium for the first time since September 2021.

Williams had lasted at least six innings in a career-high eight straight starts.

Cade Smith allowed a run in the ninth before converting his big league-leading 21st save and 18th in a row.

ROYALS 5, REDS 2

CINCINNATI (AP) -- Michael Massey hit a tiebreaking RBI single in the ninth inning, Vinnie Pasquantino and Nick Loftin homered and Kansas City beat Cincinnati to win the three-game series.

Massey’s line drive to right field off Tony Santillan (1-3) scored pinch-runner Tyler Tolbert and Loftin’s first home run this season capped the scoring.

Daniel Lynch IV (2-0) relieved starter Stephen Kolek in the eighth and did not allow a run before Alex Lange pitched a scoreless ninth for his first save -- and his first save opportunity -- since 2024 with Detroit. Kolek gave up two runs with eight strikeouts in seven innings.

The Royals won their second road series and their first since a three-game sweep May 1-3 at Seattle. Kansas City is 2-4 in rubber games and 6-14 in series finales.

Kansas City had lost seven of its previous eight games overall.

Pasquantino, Massey and Jac Caglianone had two hits apiece.

Reds starter Chase Burns allowed two runs and four hits with nine strikeouts in six innings. The 23-year-old has 81 strikeouts in 70 1/3 innings this season.

ASTROS 11, PIRATES 9

HOUSTON (AP) -- Cam Smith hit a tiebreaking two-run triple to cap Houston’s six-run eighth inning, Isaac Paredes homered and the Astros overcame a five-run deficit to beat Pittsburgh.

Yordan Alvarez had four hits and two RBIs for the Astros. Smith and Paredes had two hits and three RBIs apiece, and Jeremy Peña went 2 for 3 with a double.

AJ Blubaugh (3-2) pitched the eighth inning to get the victory. Josh Hader made his season debut and worked a scoreless ninth for the save, ending the Pirates’ winning streak at four.

Houston starter Spencer Arrighetti, who went 4-1 in five starts with a 0.93 ERA in May, allowed four runs in four innings.

Henry Davis hit his first career grand slam in the fourth inning for Pittsburgh. Nick Gonzalez had a homer, double and three RBIs.

The Pirates have scored nine-plus runs in four consecutive games, the longest streak in the majors this season, and has struck out at least nine batters in eight straight games.

Pittsburgh’s Gregory Soto (4-1), who faced four batters, allowed three runs and three hits and walked one.
