University boys, girls prevail at Ryan Jobes Invite

WILLIAMSTOWN — Area track teams turned in a strong showing Saturday at the Ryan Jobes Invitational, with University sweeping the boys and girls team titles. The St. Marys placed runner-up, finishing five points behind the Hawks (127-122). Laney Watkins grabbed a pair of victories in the 100 (12.83) and 200 (26.55) to lead the Blue Devils. Ripley’s Kyndyll Butler was runner-up in both events, as well as the 400. Watkins also led St. Marys in the winning 4x2 team, along with Addy Cummings, Avry Bennett and Maddie Smith. PARKERSBURG — The Parkersburg boys defended their home track while the PHS girls placed runner-up to Huntington in Friday’s Kim Nutter Invitational at Stadium Field. The Big Reds outscored the Highlanders 150-138.33 on the boys side while HHS out-pointed the PHS girls 154.8-144. AJ Payne set a new meet record in the 400 with a time of 50.23 seconds, besting teammate Landen Deuley’s mark of 50.36 from last year.
