COLUMN: Bring back souvenir programs to state tournaments

I, myself, am an avid Mountain State high school wrestling enthusiast. Every year I look forward to acquiring a souvenir program from the state tournament. This year I was informed that there would be no more programs sold at the state tournament. Asking why, I was told that the cost of printing the programs was too expensive, and now you could only visit the WVSSAC website to see a digital state program. Did you know that? McFarland Aces MCC Brian McFarland, of Marietta, got his second hole-in-one on hole No. 17 at Marietta Country Club. McFarland aced the 127-yard hole using a pitching wedge. Witnesses were Bill McFarland, “Coach” Joe Matheny and Scott Barrows. Sovil Aves GCWV Zack Sovil, of Parkersburg, recorded his first ever hole-in-one at the Golf Club of West Virginia. Sovil aced hole No. 12, a 135-yard par 3, using a sand wedge. The shot was witnessed by his playing partner Riley Garrison.

BEVERLY – Fort Frye starting pitcher Grady Hesson came into Thursday evening’s D-6 district semi-final against the Caldwell Redskins sporting an incredible 0.39 earned run average on the season. The only way the Cadet junior could lower that minuscule ERA would be to shut out the Caldwell Redskins for the third time this season and that is exactly what the Fort Frye ace did as he scattered five base hits and the Cadets blanked Caldwell 6-0 to advance to the district championship game.
