WVU set for pitching duel vs. UCF

MORGANTOWN — No. 13 West Virginia baseball starts its three-game series with No. 23 UCF on Friday, April 3, with the first pitch at 6:30 p.m., which is the second-straight weekend the Mountaineers are facing a ranked opponent. Boulware brings experience to WVU staff

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia football’s new running backs coach, Jay Boulware, has been around football for a long time, coaching at multiple different stops and positions. He played offensive line in college, and after he was injured, he moved on to coaching. That was in the 90s. Boulware has coached the offensive line with Dan Roushar, who is the line coach with the Chicago Bears. Locally, coached under Mike Tomlin with the Pittsburgh Steelers, working with running backs. Ben Howell pitched five shutout innings with three strikeouts. SOFTBALL *Payten Mackey homered and drove in two runs while Annie Shelton struck out 17 batters over six shutout innings in Parkersburg South’s 8-0 win over Spring Valley. Shelton added a triple at the plate while Allison Curfman was 3 for 3 with a double. *Katelyn Valandingham and Maddie Hansell each drove in runs in Waterford’s 13-2 loss to Eastern.

Mountaineers beat Stanford in Crown tourney

MORGANTOWN — Honor Huff, with the help of the free-throw line, refused to let West Virginia get crowned on Thursday. The Mountaineers also flashed some defense down the stretch against Stanford star freshman Ebuka Okorie. It all led to WVU’s 82-77 overtime victory against Stanford inside the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas, in the opening round of the College Basketball Crown tournament.
