BECKLEY – Defensive miscues came back to haunt Parkersburg Post 15 and possibly extend the West Virginia American Legion State Tournament to a winner-take-all matchup between Parkersburg and Wheeling Post 1. LANCASTER, Ohio – Runs were hard to come by in the latter stages of Sunday afternoon’s elimination game for Beverly/Lowell Post 389/750 at the American Legion State Baseball Tournament. Seeking to advance to Monday’s championship round, Bev/Lowell lost to Napoleon 8-7 in eight innings. Ohio, WVU football meet in season-opener

MORGANTOWN — West Virginia football changed the date of the home matchup against Ohio, which moved up the start of the 2027 season. The Mountaineers' game against the Bobcats will be played on Aug. 28, 2027, instead of the originally slated Sept. 18, 2027, game, per release. It'll now be the home and season-opener for the 2027 season. The season was supposed to start the following week against Southern Mississippi on Sept. 4. BECKLEY — In a state tournament elimination game, Parkersburg Post 15 rallied from a 7-1 deficit to claim an 11-9 win over Beckley Post 32 on Saturday. Beckley (26-8) got to Parkersburg starter Seth Menarchek early, putting three runs in the first and two more in the second for a 5-1 lead. Post 32 added two more in the fourth to go up six, but Parkersburg answered with a six-spot in the top of the fifth to knot it up at 7-all. LANCASTER, Ohio — Trailing by a run and down to their last out, Beverly/Lowell Post 389/750 rallied for a pair of runs to beat Lancaster Post 11 3-2 in a state tournament game Saturday at Beavers Field. Beverly/Lowell now will face Yeager/Benson Post 199 at 12:30 p.m. Sunday in the winner’s bracket final – a rematch of last year’s state final in which Post 389/750 prevailed.
