Prep football roundup: Belpre blanked by Southern

BELPRE -- Southern dominated in every phase for a 42-0 win Friday night at Ralph Holder Stadium to spoil homecoming for Belpre.

Colton Jones opened the game with a 58-yard passing touchdown to Lazareth Priddy, who finished with 127 yards on five catches. Jones completed 12 of 13 attempts for 177 yards and also ran 12 times for 53 yards and a score. Jesse Sayre, who led all rushers with 63 yards on 12 attempts, had a TD on the ground as did teammates Scotty Thomas, Hunter Lackey and Cooper Diddle.

Belpre, which was outgained 377-65 in the contest, drove to Southern's 29-yard line on its second possession of the game thanks to a 36-yard run by Alex Parker, but an interception by Sayre halted the drive. Belpre had one other drive reach Southern territory after a 21-yard reception by Malakai Ensor, but it ended with a fumble two plays later.

BHS quarterback Mason Baxter finished 6 for 15 for 36 yards. He was picked off twice -- once by Sayre and once by Weston Smith. Parker finished with 43 yards on 10 carries.

Belpre is back home next week against Eastern while the Tornadoes will play host to Federal Hocking. Both teams are now 4-4.

Ritchie County 43, Wirt County 19

ELLENBORO -- That 0-2 start is ancient history.

Ritchie County picked up its fourth straight win, a 43-19 triumph over visiting Wirt County Friday night, to improve to 4-2.

Jenner Keen had 17 carries for 128 yards and a touchdown while Isaiah Poole went for 120 yards on 19 rushes and found the end zone twice for the Rebels, who play host to Liberty next week.

Landen Hanlon, who also had a rushing touchdown, completed 5 of 8 passes for 116 yards and two TDs -- a 41-yarder to Hunter McCray and a 33-yarder to Aiden Compton.

Ritchie racked up 319 yards on 52 carries and finished with 435 total yards of offense.

Wirt (1-5) led 7-0 after Adryon Hartford's 3-yard touchdown in the first. Later, Luke Hickman's 8-yard TD pass to Andrew Lemley put the Tigers ahead 13-7, but the Rebels dominated from there. Hartford, who finished with 81 yards on 16 carries, later found the end zone again from 13 yards out. Hickman ended up 11 for 21 for 216 yards and was intercepted once by Reese Edwards. Lemley caught four balls for 73 yards, Peyton Dye added 64 yards on three receptions and Dylan Hutchinson snagged two passes for 61 yards for WCHS, which is off next week before hosting Valley on Oct. 23.

Fort Frye 42, Marietta 0

BEVERLY -- Fort Frye took all its frustration from last week's loss to Barnesville on Marietta Friday night. The Cadets cruised to a 42-0 win over the Tigers to improve to 7-1.

Grady Hesson scored two touchdowns on the ground and threw for 161 yards. Tytan Waller caught two passes for 96 yards and carried five times for 67 yards.

Gavin Rauch led the Cadets with 82 yards on six rushes, finding the end zone once. Zavier Springer, Wyatt Erb and Sam Bricker added one rushing TD apiece.

Defensively, Clayton intercepted a pair of Tiger passes on a night where Marietta was limited to 148 total yards, with 103 of those coming on 33 carries. MHS (0-8) also lost two fumbles.

Next week, the Cadets head to Warren while Marietta plays host to Point Pleasant.

Wahama 49, Calhoun County 7

MT. ZION -- Rome Riddel's 3-yard touchdown run got Calhoun County on the board in the fourth, but it was Wahama prior to that as the White Falcons rolled to a 49-7 road victory Friday night.

Trace Simpkins had six carries for 156 yards and a touchdown and was also 7 for 13 passing for 106 yards, including a 28-yard touchdown pass to Cooper Roush.

Roush also found the end zone on a 16-yard carry to open the scoring, but it was Jarius Robinson who frequented the end zone the most with four TDs. Robinson finished with 72 yards on 10 carries for Wahama, which is now 7-0 ahead of next week's home showdown with Frankfort.

Ezra Anderson led the Red Devils (4-2) with 67 yards on eight carries while Riddel added 35 yards on 13 totes. Calhoun, which visits Valley next week, was out-gained 393-120 in the contest.

Waterford 68, Federal Hocking 0

STEWART, Ohio -- Waterford's defense forced six turnovers, recorded a safety and allowed negative rushing yardage in a 68-0 win Friday at Federal Hocking.

Hayden Jones needed just five carries to rack up 108 yards and two touchdowns. Devin Pottmeyer and Kameron Johnson both had pick-sixes. Pottmeyer also ran for a touchdown.

Finn Pennock caught a touchdown and ran for one while Johnson and Gavin Hiener both had a TD reception. Avery Pottmeyer finished 5 for 5 for 57 yards and three scoring strikes.

Defensively, Jude Strauss, Avery Pottmeyer and Joel Jenks each had an interception while Ashton Huck registered two sacks.

Waterford is now 6-2 and heads to Trimble next week. Federal Hocking remains winless with a trip to Southern up next.

Cameron 46, Frontier 14

NEW MATAMORAS -- Soier Reed ran for 128 yards, four touchdowns and also threw for a TD to lead Cameron past Frontier 46-14 Friday.

Sharon Brown led the Dragons (5-1) with 175 yards on 17 carries and a touchdown. Austin Miller had a rushing touchdown and Sterling Reed caught one for Cameron, which outscored Frontier 20-0 in the second quarter to break a 7-7 tie.

Frontier led 7-0 early on Caden Barrows' 4-yard TD run, but the Dragons scored the next 46 points before Luke Mendenhall capped the game with a 16-yard scoring plunge.

Mendenhall led the Cougars (5-3) with 77 yards on 19 carries and went 13 for 22 passing for 114 yards. Austyn Kephart caught five passes for 65 yards and had an interception on defense. Davyn Ferrell also had a pick for Frontier, which heads to Shenandoah next week.

Tyler Consolidated 55, Magnolia 14

KIDWELL -- Gideon Winfrey scored three touchdowns and Israel Winfrey added two as Tyler Consolidated evened its record at 3-3 with Friday's 55-14 win over Magnolia.

Ashton Morris threw three touchdown passes -- one apiece to Cam Strode, Kolbin Highley and Maddox Corley -- while Strode threw one to Israel Winfrey. Gideon Winfrey had two rushing touchdowns and also returned a kickoff 82 yards to the house.

The Silver Knights, who visit Oak Glen next week, led 7-0 after one, 20-0 at halftime and 49-0 going into the fourth.

Magnolia, which dropped to 1-5 and plays host to St. Marys next week, got on the board in the third on Brycen Postlethwait's 58-yard touchdown pass to Lucas Anderson. Postlethwait, who finished 9 for 16 for 140 yards and two interceptions, threw another TD strike in the fourth to Ashton Skelley from 12 yards out. Anderson finished with 75 yards on three receptions while Cayden Hall led the Blue Eagles with 60 yards on 15 carries.

Eastern 55, Trimble 30

REEDSVILLE, Ohio -- Parker Durst and Kyler Basham formed a wrecking crew on the ground in Eastern's 55-30 win over Trimble on Friday.

Durst had 17 carries for 257 yards and two touchdowns while Basham added 14 rushes, 245 yards and three TDs as the duo combined for more than 500 yards of offense.

For good measure, Braxton Yonker added 40 yards and three scores on six carries.

Tied at 14-all after a quarter, the Eagles (6-2) scored 21 unanswered points going into halftime to make it 35-14. It was 48-14 going into the fourth.

Eastern will look for its third straight win next week at Belpre.

Braxton County 33, Buffalo 0

BUFFALO -- Brady Toler rushed for three touchdowns and Braxton County's defense held Buffalo below under 100 yards of total offense as the Eagles claimed a 33-0 victory Friday to even their record at 3-3.

Toler finished with 13 carries for 137 yards and TD runs of 44, 3 and 10 yards in the game. Jackson Lewis, who had 71 yards on seven attempts, also had a rushing touchdown while Logan Payne returned a punt 66 yards to the house to account for Braxton's scoring.

The Eagles finished with 317 yards on 48 carries as a team and outgained the Bison 359-99.

Braxton, which plays host to Doddridge County next week, overcame 12 penalties for 100 yards.

Buffalo (1-5) heads to Ravenswood next week.
