REEDSVILLE -- Parker Durst's 82-yard touchdown jaunt on the first play from scrimmage here Friday night at East Shade River Stadium put Eastern ahead for good as head coach Jason Jackson's program improved to 3-1 following a 42-20 victory versus Beaver Eastern in a battle of the Eagles.
Eastern used a 60-yard pass from Braxton Yonker to tight end Case Barnett on the ensuing drive as Bashem's 12-yard jaunt to paydirt made it 13-0 after Gradey Murphy's extra point was blocked.
Eli Shaffer got the visitors on the board with a 69-yard TD burst to make it 13-7 after one.
However, the host Eagles led 28-7 at intermission thanks to a Trace Barnett 87-yard scoring gallop along with a Bashem 7-yard TD run, which was followed by his two-point conversion catch from Yonker.
Bashem (14-145) and Durst (11-143) led the ground attack for Eastern, which heads next Friday to Warren.
The visiting Eagles (2-2) cut it to 28-20 via a Shaffer 20-yard TD run and Boston Webb's 26-yard TD grab from Brydn Davis, but Bashem tallied the final two six-pointers on runs of 14 and 20 stripes.
