PARKERSBURG — Despite cold temperatures here Friday during the Erickson Invitational a pair of meet records fell as Parkersburg’s boys and girls claimed the team titles.
Tyler Consolidated’s Amos Kimble, who is set to compete at Marshall University, clocked in with a record-breaking time of 4:17.27 in the 1600, which erased the 2021 effort of 4:24.78 set by Belpre’s Eli Fullerton.
Parkersburg’s Javel Chandler, who also won the high jump (6-2) and the 300 hurdles (40.60), not only earned high-point honors with 32, but his time of 14.68 in the 110 high hurdles eclipsed the old mark of 14.78 set by Ripley’s Ridge Dalrymple in 2017.
The Big Red boys, who also had individual first-place efforts from AJ Payne (400, 49.62), Rogan Mincks (800, N/A), Carter Thorpe (3200, 9:46.16) and Drey Grinter (shot put, 51-7), finished with 146 points.
Ritchie County was runner-up with 104 while Point Pleasant (77), Ripley (74.5) and Williamstown (71) rounded out the top five.

Ripley’s girls finished in fifth place with 54 points and 24 of those were scored by high-point Kyndyll Butler, who won the long jump (15-5.25), was runner-up in the 100 to Point Pleasant’s Josie Wray (12.69 to 12.82) and finished third in the 200 (26.61) behind Wray’s 26.48 and Magnolia’s Bella Sockman (26.56).
The host Patriots of head coach Megan Jones got their top individual effort from the girls in the 3200 thanks to Alyssa McCrady finishing runner-up to Williamstown’s Cassie Sites (11:46.71 to 12:11.68).
PSHS, which finished in fourth place with 69 points and trailed PHS (166), Williamstown (100) and the Silver Knights (87), also had a win in the shuttles thanks to Jaclynne Welch, Tae Richards, Sophia Shamblin and Lilly Dye finishing in 1:12.13.
Parkersburg’s girls not only won the 4×4 (Olivia Carpenter, Morgan Metz, Kelina Utietiang, Allison Poole: 4:29.06) and the 4×8 (Audrey Wagoner, Metz, Hadley Edwards, Carpenter: 10:18.29), but also received golds from Mya Baruwa in the high jump (5-2), Avery Matthews in the 100 hurdles (16.71) and by Metz in the 1600 (5:24.62).
Ravenswood’s Riley Sotomayor (400, 1:01.52; 800, N/A) and Williamstown’s Reagan Corbett also were double-winners. Corbett won the shot put with a throw of 36 feet, 3 inches and took the discus crown by throwing 124-0. ‘Jacket Grace Boone cleared 10-0 in the pole vault to earn the win.

Williamstown’s quartet of Audrey Lefebure, Addison Richardson, Luci Collins and Maggie Johnson clocked in at 1:52.47 in the 4×2, but so did the Big Reds’ Aniya Payne, Adilynn Deuley, Olivia Eakle and Addison Mosso. Following a review, the judges’ call for first went to the Yellowjackets.
In the 4×1, the Silver Knights crossed first with a time of 52.67 thanks to Elaina Winfrey, Andi Fiber, Addison Blosser and Katie Grimm.
Parkersburg South’s top efforts for the boys came via Jordan Foster placing third in each of the hurdles events along with a third-place showing from Wyatt Bartley in the long jump, whose effort of 19-0.75 placed him behind Tyler’s Gideon Winfrey (19-7.5) and Ritchie County’s Kellen Cress (19-3).
In the other field events, Williamstown’s Christian Hoosier won the discus with a throw of 171 feet, 2 inches while Wahama’s Nate Harris cleared 12-0 in the pole vault. Caden Hill of Point Pleasant was runner-up in both the shot put and discus.

Point Pleasant posted a winning time of 59.94 in the shuttles thanks to Isaiah Waminan, Lucas Beckett, Wyatt Meadows and Evan Bailes.
