University boys, girls prevail at Ryan Jobes Invite

WILLIAMSTOWN — Area track teams turned in a strong showing Saturday at the Ryan Jobes Invitational, with University sweeping the boys and girls team titles.

The St. Marys placed runner-up, finishing five points behind the Hawks (127-122). Laney Watkins grabbed a pair of victories in the 100 (12.83) and 200 (26.55) to lead the Blue Devils. Ripley’s Kyndyll Butler was runner-up in both events, as well as the 400.

Watkins also led St. Marys in the winning 4×2 team, along with Addy Cummings, Avry Bennett and Maddie Smith. The foursome finished in 1:56.08. Sidni Gerlach, Natalie Mossor, Avie Sprouse and Carlie Kimball combined to win the shuttles (1:20.80).

The six-time defending state champion Yellowjacket girls, who finished third as a team, got individual wins from Cassie Sites (1600; 5:26.19), Makaela Bandy (300H; 51.62), Reagan Corbett (shot put; 37-0) and Grace Boone (pole vault; 10-0). Williamstown also won the 4×1 (Abby Lefebure, Addison Richardson, Grace Boone, Maggie Johnson; 53.65) and 4×4 (Nola King, Bandy, Sylvia Harris, Sites) 4:43.44.

The Vikings placed fourth as a team, getting first-place finishes from Braylinn Lutz (100H; 16.18), Tiffany Fisher (high jump; 5-2) and Butler (long jump; 14-9).

Natalie Henger claimed the lone individual gold for Ritchie County, besting Corbett in the discus (120-10 to 120-3).

On the boys’ side, the Rebels were a distant second to the Hawks (213.5-104). Individual wins from Kellen Cress (300H; 41.23) Jenner Keen (high jump; 5-8) and Chase Morris (shot put; 44-3) helped power RCHS.

For Williamstown, which placed third, Jackson Kerr (100; 11.62) and Christian Hoosier (discus; 162-2) captured individual titles.

St. Marys got a first-place finish in the 4×1, thanks to Xxavier Cunningham, Noah Russell, Eli Cox and Max Dauch putting up a time of 46.29, while Wood County Christian saw Koa Navarro take home the 1600 title (4:37.74)
