Josie Cox places first in three events as Roane County girls win title at Don Williams Invite

SPENCER – Roane County’s Josie Cox was a triple-winner (400, 1:02.41; 100H, 16.79; 300H, 49.64) here Saturday and helped the host Raiders capture the Don Williams Memorial over Clay County, 198-168.

Aliza Bratton had victories in the 200 (29.43) and long jump, where she nipped Raider teammate Ella Keen 13-7 to 13-6.5. Keen also had to settle for runner-up in the high jump as fellow Raider Jozee Proctor cleared 4-6 first.

Roane County’s other individual victors were Anna Tolley in the 100 (13.58) and Addison Lowe in the discus (75-6).

Clay County had wins thanks to Abigail Grandon in the pole vault (6-0), Mckinley Mahan in the 800 (2:45.84), Sophia Berberich in the 3200 (17:55.99) and Xena Legg in the shot put (30-8.5).

In the 1600, Allison Bumgarner of Wirt County secured a 6:14.70 to 6:15.01 victory against Raider Addie Taylor.

Clay County’s boys scored 185 as Roane County finished ahead of Wirt County, 125-118, for second.

The Raiders had a pair of first-place efforts thanks to Evan Greathouse’s 56.04 in the 400 and Brandon Charles clearing 12-0 in the pole vault to top teammate Krystian Hall’s 10-6.

Securing top spots on the podium for the Panthers were Kaden Fitzwater in the 3200 with a 12:18.17 to 12:20.59 win over Calhoun County’s Jackson Clawson along with teammates Evan Bass (110H, 16.93), Justin Nida (300H, 45.96), T.J. Pritt (shot put, 40-0) and Daymian Strickler (high jump, 5-6).

Calhoun County’s Kyrian Mounts won the long jump as his 18-1.5 topped the 16-1 of Wirt County’s Braxton Dennis, who went 5-4 in the high jump to also take second.

Red Devil Kristian Frederick’s heave of 119 feet, 9 inches secured the discus crown.

Tigers Tyler Smith and Kaedon Sees went 1-2 in the 100 (11.76-12.19) and the 200 (23.25-23.99) while teammates Lucas Curfman (800, 2:24.58) and Matt Balis (1600, 5:16.07) also won their respective events.
