Hoops roundup: St. Marys headed to state
ST. MARYS — St. Marys punched its ticket to the Class A state tournament with a 72-31 win over Cameron in the Class A, Region I co-finals Wednesday.
Brynnley Bulluck led all scorers with 26 points for the Blue Devils, who improved to 20-4 and earned the No. 3 seed in the single-A bracket. They’ll take on No. 6 Pocahontas County at 9:30 a.m. Tuesday in Charleston in the state quarterfinals.
Anna Bennett added 20 points for SMHS, which led 24-6 after one, 41-15 at halftime and 59-23 going into the fourth. Laney Watkins netted 17 points while Lauren Pritchett chipped in six.
The Dragons got seven points from Kendra Thomas and six from Addison Stern.
Harvest Prep 45, Waterford 33
PICKERINGTON, Ohio — Waterford’s tournament run came to close Wednesday in the Division VI regional semifinals as the Wildcats fell to Harvest Prep 45-33 at Pickerington North.
The Wildcats, who finished 14-11, led 13-12 after one but saw the Warriors dominate the second quarter 17-2 to go up 29-15 at halftime. It was 37-22 going into the fourth.
Waterford, which finished 11 for 42 (26.2%) from the floor, received nine points from Brynnlee Pottmeyer.
BOYS
Ridgewood 43, Fort Frye 33
CALDWELL, Ohio — Fort Frye fell to Ridgewood 43-33 in the Division V district semifinals Wednesday at Caldwell High School.
The Cadets (14-10) led 11-9 after one and 18-16 at halftime, but the Generals (12-12) outscored FFHS 17-4 in the third to rally for a 33-22 advantage going into the final period.
Logan Ridenbaugh scored a game-high 16 points for RHS while Jackson Cabot chipped in 14.
Terry Tompkins’ nine points pace the Cadets.
Ridgewood will take on West Muskingum Saturday for the district title.
