High School Basketball Roundup: PHS honors seniors, beats Belpre 69-55
PARKERSBURG — Chandler Jackson scored a game-high 30 points, Quinten Wilson added 26 and Parkersburg honored the trio of Jaxon Thomas, Sutton Stanley and Mathias Williams as part of a 69-55 senior night win over Belpre Monday at Memorial Fieldhouse.
Six quick points from Wilson helped PHS build a 14-4 lead, but back-to-back baskets by Carson Woodford and Malik Currie got Belpre within six by the end of one.
Currie went 7 for 7 at the free-throw line in the first three minutes of the second to put Belpre up 17-15. Baskets by Jackson, Noah Smith and Zamyar Walker put the Big Reds back in front 21-17 before Currie knocked down three more freebies to make it a one-point game.
Jackson and Smith knocked down 3-pointers to give PHS a 29-22 cushion. Currie drained two more foul shots, making him a perfect 12 for 12 at the charity stripe in the second quarter, to make it 29-24 at halftime.
PHS created some separation in the third, outscoring Belpre 17-11 to take a 46-35 advantage into the final eight minutes.
Jackson made a pair of free throws to reach the 30-point mark with 3:50 remaining in the game, putting PHS up 62-46. Wilson’s steal and slam dunk with 44 seconds left made it 69-55.
The Big Reds improved to 4-9 on the year while Golden Eagles dropped to 8-8.
Parkersburg South 76, Linsly 66
WHEELING – Harry Silvis continued on his torrid scoring pace and sending to Parkersburg South boys basketball to another win after defeating Linsly 76-66 on Monday night.
Silvis drained three 3-pointers and scored a game-high 35 points as the Patriots improved to 11-3. Teammate Taj Joyce also reached double figures with 13 points to go with seven rebounds, five steals and two assists.
A total of four Linsly players scored in double figures, including Tim Sitachom and Jackson Bonar both with a team-high 14 points.
South managed just six points in the second quarter and trailed 38-29 halftime before pouring in 42 second-half points.
Frontier 55, Wood County Christian 40
WILLIAMSTOWN – Avery Powell knocked down a pair of 3-pointers and Jacob Bowersock accounted for six of his game-high 22 points as Frontier came out firing in the first quarter of a 55-40 win over Wood County Christian on Monday.
Asher Fenton led the 6-5 Wildcats with 11 points, but managed just three free throws in the second half.
Wirt County 90, Wahama 57
WAHAMA – Wahama had no answer for Braylon Dawson and Wirt County in Monday’s 90-57 loss.
Dawson opened with an 11-point first quarter then busted open with 17 points in a second half which saw the Tigers outscore the White Falcons 52-21.
Dawson’s game-high 28 points was followed by three teammates also reaching in double figures in scoring – Tyler Smith (18), Alex Bevel (13) and Easton Wyer (10)
