PARKERSBURG — It was a clean sweep all the way around here Thursday on senior night inside Memorial Fieldhouse for the Parkersburg wrestling programs.

The Big Reds boys of head man Matt Littleton registered a pair of wins against Spring Mills (71-9) and Wheeling Park (63-15) while the girls of head coach Braylinn Custred picked up a 38-18 triumph versus the Patriots.

Big Reds CJ Carrodus (126), Ethan Jones (190), Adam Elder (215), Anniya Powell (120), Karma Hedges (132), Kailyn Yoder (152) and Azlin Thrasher (165) were honored during senior night.

“This senior class is awesome man,” said Littleton, who got two wins from Carrodus and one apiece from Jones and Elder. “I remember they came in as freshmen and we’ve watched them develop and kind of continue to still grow and battle injuries from here and there, and finally watch them hopefully fingers crossed at the end, and finish this season with some health and be able to score some points at the state tournament and kind of finish this thing right.”

The marquee match of the night featured top-ranked Wheeling Park 165-pounder Isaac Sands squaring off fourth-ranked against Parker Woods. The Big Red sophomore got an escape in the second and allowed one in the third. After Sands was called for a stall with 34.4 seconds left in regulation, he got his winning takedown for a 4-1 victory with six ticks remaining.

“It was a good match,” admitted Littleton, who argued the call to no avail. “Obviously, I think we’re right there with those guys, so we got to go back to work and clean some things up. That’s one of those matches that hopefully we’re going to see in the state tournament.”

Powell’s senior night resulted in a 17-2 technical fall versus Park’s Abigail O’Donnell while Hedges earned a forfeit. Thrasher, who was ranked fifth, lost by fall in the first period to Kyla Cunningham.

The Big Red girls also got wins by forfeit from Rose Atkinson (114), Diana Isaacs (145) and Rae Lynn Strothers (185).

Powell’s younger sister Amiya got a mat slapper in 1:21 versus 126-pounder Bailey Brothers while 138-pound teammate Ella Way upset Grace Tamburin, 8-2, in what was a No. 10 versus No. 7 showdown.

Also picking up a pair of victories for the red and white were Aiden Linko (106), Austin Carrodus (113), Seth Drennen (120), Jackson Brown (132), Stephen Myers (144), Dominic way (157), Tyreke Glover (175) and heavyweight Zach Medina. The quartet of Linko, Skeen, Way and Medina each recorded a pair of pins.

“(Kayden) McDonald is a little bit banged up,” Littleton said of not having his second-ranked 150-pounder. “I feel like he could’ve gone today if we really, really needed him to. Obviously there’s more important things on the horizon. We’re getting him ready for regionals and he’ll be good to go. This is over with now and we’re technically in our postseason.

“We’re going to start gearing up for our regional and seeing where our matchups are and how do we put ourselves in the best position to be successful at the regional time and getting our minds right, finishing that regional right and getting ourselves in the best position come state tournament time.”

Aside from Carman, Wheeling Park also had 2-0 efforts from 165-pounder Isaac Sands and 190-pounder Ashtin Long, who won both of his matches by fall.

Spring Mills’ Devin King, who registered his winning takedown with 21 seconds left versus Elder for an 8-6 victory, was the lone Cardinal to go 2-0 as he pinned Park’s Terry Sparks in 2:24.

Parkersburg returns to action next Saturday back at home for the regional.
