Hoops roundup: Joyce’s 33 lifts Patriots to victory
CHARLESTON — Taj Joyce and Logan Graham turned in career-high scoring performances to lead Parkersburg South past South Charleston 83-76 Tuesday.
Joyce finished with 33 points, six rebounds and four assists while Graham added 17 points for the Patriots, who improved to 15-4 and will play George Washington for the MSAC title on Saturday.
Harry Silvis finished with 14 points, six boards and two steals for the Patriots, who trailed 20-16 after one but rallied for a 42-37 halftime lead. The Black Eagles outscored South 22-15 in the third to put the Patriots behind 59-57 going into the fourth, but PSHS closed the game on a 26-17 run over the final eight minutes to secure the W.
South Charleston got a game-high 36 points from Malachi Brown, plus 15 from Brycen Orcutt and 13 from Aiden Graley.
Ripley 67, Parkersburg 63
RIPLEY — Ripley made a run in the third quarter to rally from a nine-point halftime deficit and win 67-63 over Parkersburg Tuesday.
The Vikings trailed 19-12 after one and 34-25 at halftime before outsourcing the Big Reds 24-10 in the third to go up 49-44 entering the fourth.
Blake Justice led Ripley (15-4) with 19 points. Matthew Stellato and Parker Smith added 14 apiece while Kyler Doss netted 13. Stellato also tallied a game-high six assists as Ripley buried 13 3-pointers in the game.
PHS got a game-high 28 points from Quinten Wilson and 22 more from Chandler Jackson. Both players grabbed eight boards while Jackson finished with three steals and three blocks.
The Big Reds (5-14) shot 62% (23 for 37) from the floor but committed 22 turnovers to Ripley’s 10.
Williamstown 61, Wirt County 47
ELIZABETH — Wyatt Powell scored a game-high 22 points to help lead Williamstown to a 61-47 win over Wirt County Tuesday.
Powell knocked down four 3-pointers for the Yellowjackets (13-5), who led 16-13 after one, 26-24 at halftime and 47-34 entering the fourth.
Tyler Keiser added 10 points for WHS. Caleb Atkinson tallied eight, Colt Rinard netted seven and Dom Strcula and Mason Kern chipped in six apiece.
For the Tigers (10-9), Braylan Dawson and Alex Bevel scored 13 points each while Easton Wyer pitched in nine.
