ELLENBORO - Elsa Law overcame early foul trouble and scored a game-high 20 points as Ritchie County snapped Doddridge County's six-game winning streak by defeating the Bulldogs 48-37 on Tuesday night.
Despite playing only three minutes in the first quarter, Law scored nine points and helped the Rebels pull out to a 9-0 lead. Law picked up her third personal in the opening period and DCHS managed to overtake the Rebels at 20-13 in the early moments of the second quarter.
Law stepped back on the court and avoided a fourth foul the rest of the game while finishing with 10 rebounds, eight steals and three assists.
Chelsie Jeffrey scored 15 points for the Rebels (8-2), while Payton Trent and Aleigh Cheeseman both scored 10 points to lead the Bulldogs (6-4).
Gilmer County 59, Webster County 15
GLENVILLE - Gilmer County's Ava Dobbins scored her 1,000th career point as part of her game-high 13 points in a 59-15 win over Webster County on Tuesday night.
The Titans, who remained unbeaten at 6-0, made quick work of Webster County after pulling out to a 19-2 lead after one quarter.
Kenley Hartshorn finished with 11 points for Gilmer, while Maddie Williams led Webster (5-5) with seven points.
Eastern 49, Wirt County 36
ELIZABETH -- Braelynn Simpson went for a game-high 18 points here Tuesday night for Eastern as the Eagles earned a season sweep of host Wirt County following a 49-36 victory.
The Tigers, who slipped to 4-6 and suffered their fourth straight setback, trailed 26-24 at halftime and 35-29 entering the fourth before getting doubled up 14-7 in the final eight minutes.
Eastern, which improved to 10-5 and defeated the Tigers’ 61-43 earlier in the season, also received 12 points on a quartet of 3s from Mackenzie Robertson as well as 11 markers by Ashlynn Thomas.
Mya Hatcher came off the orange and black bench to score a team-high nine counters. Breigyn Dawson had seven markers for the Tigers, who play tonight at Parkersburg Catholic.
Eastern returns to action with a road trip Thursday at Federal Hocking.
BOYS
Williamstown 89, Tyler Consolidated 69
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Williamstown set the tone early Tuesday, outscoring Tyler Consolidated 21-9 in the first en route to an 89-69 victory.
Caleb Atkinson led the Yellowjackets (5-3) with 18 points and six rebounds. Colt Rinard added 10 points, Nate Frye and Tyler Keiser tallied nine apiece and Wyatt Powell chipped in eight points and six assists for Williamstown, which plays host to Doddridge County Thursday.
Tyler (3-6) got a game-high 20 points from Landon Boggs plus 18 more from Kolbin Highley.
