Hoops roundup: Big Reds drop 57-56 nail-biter to Wildcats

PARKERSBURG — Parkersburg High dropped a 57-56 thriller to Nitro Thursday at Memorial Fieldhouse.

In a game that was originally scheduled for February, the Big Reds got 20 points from Chandler Jackson and 14 from Quentin Wilson. Karson Gooch chipped in seven for PHS, which dropped to 2-5 and plays host to rival Parkersburg South on Saturday.

The Wildcats (6-1), ranked third in Class AAA, got 26 points from Collin Crouch and 14 from Ty Stephens.

Doddridge County 46, St. Marys 45

ST. MARYS — Jaycee Lipscomb’s only basket of the game came at the perfect time.

The Doddridge County senior’s putback basket at the buzzer gave the visiting Bulldogs a 46-45 win over St. Marys Thursday night.

Payton Trent scored a game-high 19 points for DCHS (6-3), which led 12-7 after one but watched St. Marys (7-3) rally for a 25-19 halftime lead.

The Bulldogs, who got nine points apiece from Kamryn Satterfield and Aleigh Cheeseman, outscored the Blue Devils 16-10 in the third to force a 35-all tie going into the final eight minutes.

SMHS, which shot 34% (17 for 51) from the floor, got 12 points each from Landry Riggs and Brynnley Bulluck. Anna Bennett added a 10-point, 10-rebound double-double.

Parkersburg Catholic 90, Calhoun County 19

PARKERSBURG — Ellie Kinnison buried five 3-pointers and scored a game-high 21 points to help lead Parkersburg Catholic to a 90-19 victory over Calhoun County Thursday.

Seneca Lang added 19 points for the Crusaderettes, who improved to 8-1 and will travel to Fort Frye Monday. It’ll be a rematch from Dec. 12, when Catholic lost a 55-34 decision to the Cadets.

PCHS has since won eight straight, jumping out to a 28-3 after one against the Red Devils. Catholic led 50-10 at halftime and 67-14 going into the fourth.

Bryley Starkey finished with 16 points for the Crusaderettes, Macy Singer tallied 14 and Annie Tokodi-Ruth netted 10.

Buffalo 44, Ravenswood 34

RAVENSWOOD — Ravenswood was tied with Class AA No. 9 Buffalo at 14-all after one Thursday, but the Bison slowly built a lead over the final three quarters and left town with a 44-34 victory.

BHS (8-1), led 22-20 at halftime and 31-27 after three, got a game-high 14 points from Brooke Woods. Alyssa Grandbruche was close behind with 13 while Cami Samples chipped in nine.

The Red Devils were paced by Rachel Lambert’s 12 points and seven rebounds. Emily Andrade added nine points while Jayme Salser finished with eight points, four steals and three assists.

Ritchie County 52, South Harrison 26

ELLENBORO — Ritchie County had its foot on the gas early, jumping out to a 21-2 lead and never looking back en route to a 52-26 win over South Harrison Thursday.

Elsa Law led the Rebels with 16 points and 12 steals for a double-double. She tacked on six rebounds and three assists to her statline. Jordin Bailey chipped in 10 points and six boards while Callie Smith added eight points, six rebounds and three dimes. Abbigayl Cox led the Rebels (6-2), who visit Tolsia at 2:30 p.m. Saturday, with eight rebounds.

South Harrison, which trailed 32-10 at halftime and 47-17 after three, got nine points from Emily Squires.
