PARKERSBURG — Here Wednesday night inside Memorial Fieldhouse during the annual city dual, Parkersburg jumped out to a 36-3 lead en route to securing a 39-22 victory versus rival Parkersburg South.

The Patriots of head coach Shaun Smith, who tied the Big Reds last weekend to share team honors at the Mountain State Athletic Conference championship, trailed 14-0 before getting their first win thanks to 126-pounder Rylan Layton’s 5-1 decision versus Jackson Brown.

Parkersburg South, which heads Friday to University for a dual while the Big Reds of head man Matt Littleton will compete Friday and Saturday at the Winner’s Choice, didn’t secure their next victory until Nathan Murphy registered a 9-1 major decision against Parker Woods at 165.

Aiden Linko, who had the quickest takedown of the match, went ahead for good just eight seconds into his 106-pound battle against Patriot Austin Conley, who lost via a 13-2 major decision.

PHS 113-pounder Austin Carrodus got a win by fall with less than a second left in the first against Braedyn Carstens. Seth Drennen followed at 120 with a 12-0 major decision against Jordan Dearth for the 14-0 edge.

“I got into these guys a little bit on Monday and they responded well,” said coach Littleton. “Anytime your rival comes into the house and wants to make this thing a fight, we got to respond well and a lot of guys did from top to bottom in our lineup.

Dominic Way jumped out to a 12-4 lead against Brady Hofmann at 157 and the Big Red pushed the score to 36-3 following his 21-5 technical fall.

Murphy, who went ahead for good following a scoreless first with an escape in the second, watched 175-pound teammate Jesse Adams follow with a pin of Ethan Jones in 1:11.
