Doddridge 70, Tyler 45

KIDWELL — Nine different players scored in the first half for No. 6 Class AA Doddridge County here Tuesday night as the Bulldogs toppled Tyler Consolidated, 70-45, in the season and Little Kanawha Conference opener for both programs.

The Bulldogs scored the final five points of the first to take an 18-9 advantage following a pair of TCHS turnovers that led to a Joshua DeHaven three-point play and a Jerod Trent pull-up jumper.

Jaden Solomon opened the second quarter with a three-point play as the Bulldogs led 32-18 at intermission and 51-27 entering the final eight minutes.

DeHaven, who had seven rebounds, scored 11 of his game-high 16 points in the second half, which included a dunk in the fourth.

Malachi Kelley came off the bench and put up 12 points and eight rebounds for the Bulldogs, who also got 10 points from Landon Thomas and seven counters from Maddox Jones.

The Silver Knights, who were playing without senior Zayden Hardbarger, received 14 points from Landon Boggs, nine by Brody Giovinazzo and eight from Garrett Bordenkircher.

Tyler Consolidated plays Thursday at South Harrison while the ‘Dogs travel Friday to Scott.

Wirt 63, Gilmer 57

GLENVILLE — Braylan Dawson scored a game-high 20 points while Tyler Smith and Braxton Dennis each turned in double-doubles as Wirt County defeated Gilmer County 63-57 in Tuesday’s season opener.

Dawson knocked down three 3-pointers and was 5 for 6 at the free-throw line for the Tigers (1-0), who led 18-16 after one, 28-26 at halftime and 48-39 after three. He also notched five assists.

Dennis finished with 14 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks while Smith added 10 points, 10 boards and a pair of rejections. Easton Wyer chipped in 12 points and seven rebounds while Alex Bevel dished out a team-high seven dimes.

The Titans (0-1) were led by Kolten Holbert’s 19 points. Jacob Mick added 14 while Tyler Ratliff tallied 12.

Wirt visits Valley Friday while Gilmer’s back at home Saturday against Wahama.

John Marshall 80, Magnolia 51

MOUNDSVILLE — Kingston Christen led all scorers with 30 points in a losing effort.

Magnolia fell to John Marshall 80-51 in Tuesday’s season opener. Christen buried 12 field goals, four of which were 3-pointers, and was 2 for 2 at the free-throw line. Noah Hood added 11 points for the Blue Eagles (0-1), who get a week off before visiting Valley next Tuesday.

John Marshall (1-0) was led by Jackson Helms’ 25 points. Preston Watkins added 17 points while Sincear Saunders-Paige and Landon Snyder chipped in 15 points apiece for the Monarchs, who led 22-8 after one, 42-20 at halftime and 60-38 after three.

Girls

Magnolia 35, Wood County Christian 31

WILLIAMSTOWN — Kaylee Yost put up a game-high 20 points to lift Magnolia to a 35-31 win over Wood County Christian Tuesday.

The Blue Eagles (1-1) trailed 7-6 after one, but outscored the Wildcats 10-5 in the second to go up 16-12 at halftime. Magnolia increased the lead to 27-22 going into the final eight minutes and held on from there.

Aubrey Warder’s five points were the next highest total for the Blue Eagles.

Maren Misel led Wood County Christian (1-1) with nine points. Hannah Parsley grabbed 13 rebounds while Brooke Arnold finished with six points, 12 boards, four steals and four blocks. Alaina Parsley added six points while Eliza Amos chipped in four steals for the Wildcats, who visit Heritage Christian Friday.

Ravenswood 35, Point Pleasant 26

POINT PLEASANT — Despite shooting 25.6% (10 for 39) from the floor and 38.2% (13 for 34) from the free-throw line, Ravenswood improved to 3-0 with a 35-26 win over Point Pleasan Tuesday.

The Red Devils got a game 10 points from Jayme Salser, who added six rebounds, three assists and four steals to her statline. Rachel Lambert finished with nine points, eight boards and four steals while Emily Andrade contributed seven points and eight steals. RHS is back in action at 10:45 a.m. Saturday, when it’ll face Moorefield at Robert C. Byrd.

Point Pleasant, which led 7-6 after one quarter, got eight points from Kila Queen and six more from Faith Lowes. The Big Blacks scored just four points apiece in the second and third quarters as the Red Devils took a 21-15 advantage into the final eight minutes of play.
