Second annual Night of the Sweet 1600s to run Saturday
PARKERSBURG — The second annual Night of the Sweet 1600s is set for Saturday evening at Parkersburg’s Stadium Field.
More than 140 runners are expected to compete in races for all ages with kids races set for elementary school students.
There are also races for middle school, high school as well as an open community heat.
The meet consists of 1600 meter races on the track with the goal of each runner using their current post cross country season fitness to hit a new PR.
Runners from across the Mountain State are competing and traveling in for the event.
Regular race day registration is available from 4-5 p.m. for a cost of $20, cash only. However, there will be no guaranteed heat placement.
New this year, the Night of the Sweet 1600s will have elementary school races at a cost of $5 per participant. Those races will be a 400 meter dash for third grade and below. Fourth and fifth grades will compete in an 800 meter dash.
The stadium will open at 4 p.m. with the first races getting underway an hour later.
Entry into the stadium for the event is $3 per person and concessions will be available for purchase.
All elementary school participants will receive medals. The top three boys and girls finishers in the high school and middle school races also will receive a medal and be recognized on the podium.
Any participant who sets a new 1600 personal best will ring the cowbell and be given a free Chick-fil-A sandwich to celebrate their postseason accomplishment.
The meet, which will have T-shirts available to purchase and is being officiated by Chip Allman, will be timed using FAT timing and the Sprint & System timing.

6:15 p.m. – Boys Emerging Elite Heat 2 (1600m)
6:30 p.m. – Emerging Elite High School Boys (1600m)
6:45 p.m. – Emerging Elite High School Girls (1600m)
7 p.m. – Championship High School Girls (1600m)
7:15 p.m. – Championship High School Boys (1600m)
