Williamstown runners sweep Ritchie Invite

ELLENBORO — Tyler Consolidated’s Amos Kimble and Travis Moore finished one-two at Saturday’s Ritchie County Invitational, but the Silver Knight boys had to settle for a runner-up team finish to Williamstown, 44-46, while the Yellowjacket girls rolled to a 32-66 win ahead of second place Wirt County.
Wirt County’s Matthew Balis (17:28), Point Pleasant’s Wyatt Kirkpatrick (17:58) and Rebel Jenner Stewart (18:05) rounded out the top five.
The ‘Jackets were led to victory thanks to Zander Boyce (6th, 18:10), Jimmy Erlandson (7th, 18:30), Chase Pickering (9th, 18:52), Vincent Zegrea (13th, 19:07) and Brody Pickens (15th, 19:17).
The host Rebels also received an eighth-place showing from Kenson Roman (18:36) while Silver Knight Brody Nice was 10th with a time of 18:59.
Ritchie County’s Bentlee Williams grabbed gold after crossing in 20:30, which was 14 seconds faster than runner-up Yellowjacket Cassie Sites. WHS also had top 10 finishes thanks to Sylvia Harris (4th, 23:18) and Isabella Bryant (5th, 23:26) while Kate Florence (11th, 24:11) and Nola King (12th, 24:33) accounted for the team scoring.
North Marion’s Jadyn Duncan placed third with a time of 22 minutes and 43 seconds. Also cracking the top 10 were Wirt County’s Skylie Thompson (6th, 23:31) and Allison Bumgarner (9th, 25:53), Tyler Consolidated’s Amber Ebert (7th, 23:43) and Lily Haught (8th, 23:53) along with Calhoun County’s Paige Sterns (10th, 24:06).
St. Marys’ Bennett 7th at Louisville Classic
LOUISVILLE, Ky. — St. Marys junior Anna Bennett led the way for the Blue Devils here Saturday at the Louisville Classic with a seventh-place finish after crossing in 19 minutes and 22 seconds.
The Blue Devil girls, who finished 12th in the field, also had scoring runs by a quartet of other juniors – Savana Burd (62nd, 21:33), Maddie Smith (82nd, 22:41), Brooklyn Davis (106th, 23:58) and Sidni Gerlach (124th, 25:01).
Junior Parker Barnes placed 37th with a time of 17:09 to help the St. Marys boys finish in 13th. He was followed by senior Bruce Bills (60th, 17:33), 11th-graders Desmond Parks (62nd, 17:35) and Carter Sole (128th, 19:11) as well as freshman Wyatt Payne (139th, 19:28).
Ravenswood sweeps own invite
RAVENSWOOD — Red Devils Riley Sotomayor and Gavin Wilburn were the top finishers here Saturday during the Ravenswood Invitational.
The RHS girls, who received a winning effort of 12 minutes and 57 seconds from Sotomayor, was the only full team in the field.
Gwyn Gorrell of Ravenswood finished runner-up with a time of 13:09 while Ripley’s Lanie Knopp placed third with a time of 14:13.
Ravenswood’s boys handed Ripley a 25-30 setback led by Wilburn’s time of 11 minutes and 18 seconds, which was just two ticks quicker than Ripley runner-up Eli Casto. The Viking just managed to hold off Red Devil Johnny Heath’s 11:21 clocking.
Doddridge boys win at Lincoln
SHINNSTON — Doddridge County placed four runners in the top 10, led by junior Samuel Gola’s winning effort of 16 minutes and 59 seconds, as the Bulldogs handed host Lincoln a 28-36 defeat during Saturday’s Junior Nuzum Memorial Invitational.
Bulldog senior Carter Sias had to settle for third after finishing nine seconds behind Lewis County runner-up Brody Skinner’s 17:11 clocking.
Also figuring in the team scoring for DCHS were Cory Swentzel (6th, 17:47), Colton Key (7th, 17:50) and Noah Bodkin, who placed 11th with a time of 18:14.
Bulldog freshman Emily Cottrill has the top area finish for the girls. Her time of 20 minutes and 39 seconds was good for third. Senior teammate Kaitlyn Key was ninth (21:16).
Braxton County had a pair of top 10 efforts thanks to Leah Payne (5th, 20:56) and Reece Carpenter (10th, 21:22).
