“Coach up the next young man and get them ready. We have a lot of young talent on this roster and they’re getting opportunities sooner than later. They are also capitalizing on those opportunities which is cool to see.”

Game notes: This year’s edition of the Williamstown Yellowjackets are quite there yet, but they do have something in common with the program’s 1997 squad – the last time Williamstown opened the season 1-4. The Yellowjackets need to secure wins this week then next week against South Harrison before hooking up with Doddridge County, which appears to be running on all cylinders. During last week’s loss against Braxton County, Poca actually enjoyed a 14-0 lead. In defeat, running back Spencer Jones gained 150 yards on 29 carries but quarterback Kamauri McBride completed just 4-of-16 passes for 40 yards. “South Harrison has a strong rushing attack from the stick-I.”

The Hawks will be trying to avoid a three-game losing streak after opening 4-0, but the Bulldogs have won six straight in the series and own a 22-19-1 overall edge.

The Titans of head man Tommy Hamric noted “we will be dressing everyone who is eligible for the first time in three weeks.

“Another week with a great opponent on the schedule. Hopefully we can turn things back around and play solid Titan football.”

Gilmer County, which has slipped to No. 18 in the single-A ratings, last met St. Marys in the 2016 playoffs where the Titans suffered a 47-0 setback.

St. Marys has defeated the Titans in all six of their previous meetings.

ROANE AT RAVENSWOOD

Game notes: It’ll be a tough task for host Ravenswood on Friday night when Roane County invades.

The Raiders of head coach Paul Burdette are coming off a key 38-36 win versus Ripley and check in at No. 9 in the Class AA ratings.

Ravenswood, which is currently riding a 21-game losing streak dating back to 2023, played its most complete game of the campaign during last week’s 28-19 loss to Sissonville.

“Good battle. We just couldn’t finish enough drives,” noted RHS second-year head man Matt Peery of last week’s effort.

The Red Devils know what to expect as Roane County quarterback Jacob Greathouse is averaging fewer than five pass attempts per game.

The Raiders are averaging better than 390 rushing yards a game and are approaching 2,000 for the season. The two teams haven’t met since 2022. Although the Raiders are seeking a sixth straight victory in the series, the squad from Spencer trails the all-time series 20-11.

Making the trip from Dunmore, the Warriors will be meeting the Tigers for just the fourth time ever with the orange and black eyeing a third triumph in what will be a battle of rated Class A programs.

Tiger senior quarterback Tyler Smith became the school’s all-time career leader in passing yards and touchdowns following last week’s blowout win at Webster County.

“They are a really big team and they’ve lost two games by a couple points each,” said WCHS head coach Jason Hickman.

“They could very easily be 3-2 right now. The 1-4 record doesn’t do them justice as to who they really are. I think if we show up and play we’ll be OK.”

The No. 19 Warriors will be looking for an upset on homecoming versus the No. 11 Tigers, who will be off next week before ending the regular season at Valley, home for senior night versus Tolsia and then a Week 11 cash versus St. Marys at Bill Hanlin Stadium.

Winfield and Ripley have not met since 2015. The Generals lead the series, 10-7, with wins in five of the previous six meetings. Key Ritchie County players: Turner Shriver (QB/LB); Carter Satterfield (RB/LB); Kellen Cress (WR/DL)

Game notes: Ritchie County used its off week wisely after returning with its first win of the season. Turner Shriver did it all for the Rebels but mop the kitchen floor after rushing for 82 yards and passing for another 152 yards on 9-of-11 passing. Teammate Carter Satterfield added 125 yards on the ground and scored three TDs. Against Gilmer, Ritchie scored the game’s first 34 points. Wahama received quite the test from Eastern last week. The White Falcons led 7-3 before Reezin Stitt’s second touchdown of the game got the ball rolling. Wahama, ranked No. 1 in Class A this week, has won the last three meetings with Ritchie and leads the all-time series 5-4.

The Bison scored 22 straight points to take a 42-7 lead into halftime. Calhoun hooks up with a Clay County outfit ranked No.15 in Class AA. Clay lost a heartbreaker to then-No. 6 Logan last week. Joel Elliott’s 25-yard touchdown reception from Cooper Collins cut the deficit to 7-6 midway in the third quarter. Logan added some insurance with a touchdown at the 2:05 mark of the fourth quarter. Clay leads the all-time series with Calhoun, 27-20. Clay has won the last seven meetings.

Key Fort Frye players: TE/K Tytan Waller; OL/DL Zavier Springer; RB Gavin Rauch

Key Marietta players: OL/DL Teddy Bauer; WB/LB Will Tornes; QB/DB Owen Riley

Game notes: Now that Marietta has finally put a notch in the win column, the Tigers turn their attention to a matchup with Fort Frye’s red-hot defense.

The Cadets haven’t allowed a point to an opposing offense since week two, and they’ve not allowed more than seven points in a game since week one.

Fort Frye will look to keep things rolling against a Marietta offense that is averaging 8.8 points per game the last four weeks. However, the Tigers seem to have found a groove in their single-wing offense with Owen Riley at quarterback. After getting shutout in weeks four and five, Marietta scored 21 points two weeks ago and 14 last week while moving the ball up and down the field consistently.

MAGNOLIA AT FRONTIER

Key Magnolia players: QB Finn Loy; RB Hunter Cooley; WR Ethaniel Harlan

Key Frontier players: QB Aaden Bills; RB Caleb Kirkpatrick; WR Austyn Kephart

Game notes: After losing five of its last six games, Frontier could use a get-right game.

The Cougars will take on a winless Magnolia squad Friday looking to bounce back after getting torched by Conotton Valley last week. The Frontier defense surrendered more than 500 total yards of offense and 54 points, and will look to get back on track against the Blue Eagles, who have scored more than 12 points in a game just once this season.

POINT PLEASANT AT WARREN

Key Point Pleasant players: QB Caden Hill; WR Isaiah Waminam; WR Gavin Barnett

Key Warren players: RB Nehemiah Reeder; OL/DL Tyler Steele; WR/DB Davin Dickel

Game notes: Warren’s offense took a big step forward last week.

After being held to seven total points from weeks four through six, the Warriors found a groove in last week’s 30-27 loss to John Marshall.

Running back Nehemiah Reeder found success on the ground while filling in for injured teammate Eric Carr. Quarterback Declan Johnson continues to progress, while Tanner Pepper gives the Warriors one of the top offensive weapons in the area.

Defensively, Warren will have to key in on quarterback Caden Hill, who can do damage through the air as well as on the ground.

Key Waterford players: QB Hayden Jones; WB Trevin Zimmer; TE Weston Fairchild

Game notes: As it typically does, Waterford is finding a groove down the stretch.

The Wildcats shook off back-to-back losses in weeks four and five by beating a strong Eastern team two weeks ago. Last week, Waterford breezed by Southern 47-0 and will take on another one-win team in Federal Hocking this week.

Look for the Wildcats to spread the ball around on offense and get everybody involved.

Game notes: Belpre and Southern have two common opponents — Green and Trimble.

Both teams dominated against Green. Against Trimble, Belpre lost 44-0 last week while Southern battled the Tomcats to a 34-26 loss two weeks ago.

The Golden Eagles are led by quarterback Malik Currie, who has 351 passing yards and 253 rushing yards this season, both team-highs. Malakai Ensor has been his top target as the two have hooked up 21 times for 309 yards.
