Game notes: No. 7, Class AAA, Herbert Hoover won't be in a good mood come Friday night after watching its six-game winning streak get snapped following a setback to Frankfort.
Parkersburg head coach Matt Kimes' Big Reds enter the fray rated No. 9 in Class AAAA and is trying to earn enough points for a home playoff game at Stadium Field.
"They throw it all over the yard," admitted coach Kimes. "In the four games we have scouted they are over 90% pass. Really good skill guys that starts with their quarterback. We will be tested in the secondary like we haven't been to this point.
"We have to win the line of scrimmage on both sides, get pressure on the quarterback and run the ball effectively to compete. I've told the guys this is our first playoff game of the season. If we win we have an opportunity to host a playoff game, which was one of our goals to start the season."
The Huskies and the red and white have just one common opponent in Ripley. PHS, which is banged up and has several starters who will be game time decisions, handled the Vikings 56-21 last week while HHHS rolled past Ripley 62-14 two weeks ago.
This is just the third all-time meeting in the series.
PHS won the first game, 44-0, back in 1999 and then went on the road for a 75-22 romp in 2000.

Game notes: Similar to last week in a loss to Linsly, records don't tell the full truth - especially in Spring Mills' case. Three of the Cardinals' four losses are to Wheeling Park, University and Martinsburg. That doesn't take into account University which defeated Spring Mills on a touchdown in the final minute set up two plays earlier by an interception. This is far from the same Spring Mills unit which gave Martinsburg all it could handle before losing in last year's Class AAAA state final. Last season, the Cardinals averaged 39 points on offense while surrendering only a grand total of 61 points. This year, Spring Mills' offense is averaging at a 24-point clip. Like Lutchmansingh on the opposite sideline, Cardinal QB Ryalamn Swartz has the potential to throw the ball all over the field. Against University, he passed for 343 yards, including 116 to Zane Wipf.

Game notes: Under Tom Harmon, who has coached Wayne for 29 seasons, the pedigree for the Pioneers is similar to Williamstown. Despite going winless his first season, Harmon has won three state titles and taken the school to 20 postseason appearances. This week marks the first meeting between the two schools. Williamstown needs to win out to avoid finishing the regular season under .500 for the first time since 1994.

Game notes: Lincoln stayed in the postseason conversation by defeating Buckhannon-Uphsur last week on a touchdown in the final minutes of the fourth quarter. As a result, Lincoln grad Rob Hawkins became the all-time winningest coach at the school - passing the same individual (Larry Burner) who coached him in high school. Against B-U, quarterback AJ Bart passed for 291 yards and five touchdowns, including the game-winning score to Colton Edwards. "Our schedule strength benefits us in the playoff point system," Hawkins said. "If we win one or both of of our remaining games, that should get us in. This win (over B-U) goes a long way. We were 1-4 at one point and knew our margin for error was slim. Against Doddridge, we have to be able to stop the run. This is our first time playing them so we have a lot of studying to do this week and see what our best options are so we come out with a win."
This week marks the first meeting between Lincoln and Doddridge County, which has won nine straight regular season games dating back to last season.

The Tigers of head coach Jason Hickman check in at No. 12 in the latest Class A ratings as the orange and black are currently riding their second three-game winning streak of the campaign.
Tolsia is in what appears to be a must-win situation as the Rebels are tied for 19th in single-A with Calhoun County.
Wirt County concludes the regular season at current No. 10 St. Marys next week and will have to keep tabs on Robert Evans, who rushed 27 times for 210 yards in the loss to Sherman.

Game notes: Gilmer County didn't score in this game last year, but the Titans are coming off a huge win two weeks ago versus Webster County, 28-22.
While the Titans had a bye week after the victory, the Highlanders were then handed a 63-14 setback to the White Falcons.
Defending Class A state champion Wahama is currently No. 2 in the ratings while the Titans are now No. 15 after snapping their four-game losing skid week before last.
This will be the second of three road contests for the Titans of second-year head coach Tommy Hamric, who end the regular season at No. 13 Greenbrier West.
Head man James Toth's White Falcons are seeking their 39th straight regular season victory.

Game notes: Who knew when Magnolia won last year's meeting with Valley that the Lumberjacks would proceed to go on a 10-game losing streak.
However, the Lumberjacks are 0-8 this season and have yet to score more than 16 points in a game this year.
The Blue Eagles of head coach Craig Mason finally tasted victory last week after shutting out Mount View.
Magnolia, which has won all four meetings in the series, will have senior night next week versus No. 3 Clay-Battelle.
If Valley comes up short again this week, the Lumberjacks will end the season at current fellow 0-8 Richwood, which is the only other remaining Class A program without a victory this year.

Game notes: Eastern will look to go on the road and pull off an upset Friday when it meets Colonel Crawford for a first-round Ohio playoff game.
The Eastern Eagles relied heavily on their ground game, paced by Ethan Edwards and Parker Durst, throughout a 7-3 regular season.
The CCHS Eagles feature a balanced offensive attack, led by dual quarterbacks Peyton Baker and Brayden Holt.
Crawford averaged 36.7 points scored and 13.0 points allowed per game this season.
This is Eastern's seventh straight year in the postseason.
