Glenville State suffers second straight loss

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. – A 39-yard Hail Mary on the last play of the half from Anthony Garrett to Naseem Pacheco finally put Glenville State on the board here Saturday afternoon, but Lock Haven held on for a 16-13 victory in its season opener.
The Pioneers, who will try and avoid their first 0-3 start since the declared pandemic year of 2020 with COVID-19 when the G-men head at noon next Saturday to Millersville, got a Garrett to Kordell Lewis 18-yard TD strike with 1:56 left in the third, but neither team scored again.
The Bald Eagles, who will eye a 2-0 start with a 4 p.m. trip to the Crimson Hawks of IUP up next, led 16-0 with 4:12 left in the half thanks to TD runs of 44 and 13 yards by Damir Green along with a Caden Bauer 22-yard field goal.
Garrett hit 23 of 35 attempts for 296 yards with Pacheco (7-120), Tariq Meredith (4-56), Tariq Miller (4-43) and Lewis (4-37) leading the way.
GSU held a 413-392 edge in total yards, but Lock Haven went for 202 on the ground via 37 attempts compared to the Pioneers’ 117 on 36.
Jeremiah King led the ground attack with 21 carries for 78 yards during a loss where Brandon Penn paced the G-men with 10 tackles.
Prior to Lewis’ score, GSU drove into the red zone before fumbling it at the 3 only to have Jaiden McLendon Parker intercept Bald Eagle Jackson Ostrowsky, who was 15 of 26 for 190 yards.
Green carried 10 times for 76 yards while Ezequiel Johnson had 11 totes for a game-high 90 stripes.
The Pioneers, who where flagged eight times for 90 yards and also got a pass breakup with eight stops from Anthony Bachinski, missed a potential game-tying 31-yard field goal in the fourth.
