Williamstown girls win Autumn Classic

ST. MARYS – The Williamstown girls won the Autumn Classic here Saturday morning while Tyler Consolidated teammates Amos Kimble and Travis Moore had a one-two finish.

Cassie Sites’ fourth-place showing with a time of 19 minutes and 29 seconds led the way for the Yellowjackets, who also had top 30 finishes from Sylvia Harris (16th, 22:07), Nola King (19th, 22:21) and Isabella Bryant (21st, 22:28).

Herbert Hoover’s Maysen Fletcher won the title with a time of 17 minutes and 22 seconds, but the Huskies finished in fourth place with 128 as St. Marys’ 127 was just out of reach of runner-up Wheeling Park’s 118.

Bridget Kirby placed 32nd after finishing in 23 minutes and 23 seconds as the ‘Jackets posted a winning effort of 72.

The host Blue Devils were led by Anna Bennett, who ran a 20:07 and placed seventh. Teammate Savana Burd was 55 seconds off Bennett’s pace, but still finished eighth. SMHS also had scoring efforts thanks to Maddie Smith (33rd, 23:28), Sidni Gerlach (52nd, 24:25) and Brooklyn Davis (67th, 25:14).

Charleston Catholic rolled to the team crown for the boys with a 61-121 victory versus Lincoln, but Kimble completed the course in 15 minutes and 27 seconds with Moore checking in at 16:13.

Three other area boys cracked the top 15 with Wood County Christian’s Koa Navarro (12th, 17:03), Wirt County’s Matthew Balis (13th, 17:04) and Williamstown’s Jimmy Erlandson (15th, 17:16).

Runners had to finish in the top 30 to medal and two Blue Devils – Bryce Bills (26th, 17:52) and Desmond Parks (30th, 18:00) – accomplished the feat.

Amber Perkins of Wood County Christian was seven seconds behind Harris and placed 17th.

Also claiming a top 30 effort the area was Calhoun County’s Paige Sterns (28th, 22:58).
