WVU lines up future non-conference opponents
MORGANTOWN — West Virginia announced a couple of non-conference opponents for the upcoming couple of seasons Tuesday afternoon. Through a press release, the Mountaineers announced the additions of seven new games and dates, spanning from 2026-2031.
In 2026, West Virginia added a home matchup with UT-Martin on Sept. 12. This is the first meeting between the two schools. The game against the Skyhawks is the third game announced for 2026. The other two matchups are a big game in Morgantown against Alabama and a neighboring state rivalry against Virginia.
West Virginia added a pair of games against Virginia Military Institute in 2027 (Sept. 11) and 2031 (Aug. 30). The 2027 game joins non-conference games against Alabama and Ohio.
In 2028, West Virginia will now face Youngstown State on Sept. 9, and Akron on Sept. 16. The Mountaineers are also scheduled to play Tennessee in 2028.
The last two games announced were both in 2030. On Sept. 14, West Virginia plays Arkon again, and instead of St. Francis (PA), the Mountaineers play Rhode Island on Aug. 31.
With a couple of nonconference games filled in and the projected Big 12 slate of games, 2026-28 opponents should be set.
There are the easier games, but West Virginia definitely has its worked cut out for it in the upcoming years with a couple of big-name SEC opponents.
