Jayden Brown homers as Fort Frye tops rival Waterford, 13-3

BEVERLY — The Fort Frye softball team claimed a 13-3 victory over rival Waterford Tuesday.
Waterford opened the scoring in the first after Avery Smithberger doubled, scoring one run.
Fort Frye captured the lead, 3-1, in the bottom of the first when Emmie Duskey hit a sacrifice fly, scoring one run, and Jayden Brown clubbed a two-run home run to center field.
The Cadets added five runs on four hits in the second. Ella Dowler and Jaden Cox had an RBI triples, Denay Layton poked a two-run single and Faith Treadway added a run-scoring knock to make it 8-1.
FFHS plated two more in third on RBIs by Brown and Cox.

On the mound, Elle Casto pitched five innings, walking two and striking out two while allowing five hits and three runs (one earned).
Maggie Baldwin started for the Wildcats and took the loss. She went three innings, fanning three, walking four and allowing 10 runs (seven earned) on seven hits.
Brown and Layton were a one-two punch in the lineup, as each drove in three runs for Fort Frye. Layton led the Cadets with three hits in three at-bats. Treadway was 2 for 2 while Duskey led Fort Frye with two walks. Overall, the team had a strong eye at the plate, accumulating six walks for the game. Fort Frye stole eight bases in the game, with Duskey and Treadway notching two apiece.
Leia Barnett led WHS with a pair of base hits. Smithberger and Maddie Hansell each drove in a run.
