GLENVILLE -- Gilmer County was the unanimous No. 1 ranked team in Class A in the latest Associated Press poll, and the Titans showed why Wednesday night.
Playing host to second-ranked Tucker County, GCHS pulled away for a 65-37 victory to improve to 15-2 on the year.
The Titans, who face Huntington St. Joe at 1 p.m. Monday at West Virginia State, led just 15-14 after one but outscored the Mountain Lions 15-8 in the second to take a 30-22 lead into halftime.
Things continued to snowball from there for the visitors as Gilmer outscored Tucker 35-15 in the second half.
Allie Ellyson led the Titans with a game-high 21 points. Lena Frymier, who drained four 3-pointers, and Ava Dobbins added 16 points apiece for Gilmer.
TCHS (11-3) got 13 points from Makenna Evans, 12 from Mayah Gross and nine from Raven Matthews.
Parkersburg South 65, Cambridge 34
PARKERSBURG -- Parkersburg South was dominant in an Ohio Valley Athletic Conference 5A consolation game against Cambridge Wednesday at Rod Oldham Athletic Center.
The Patriots (4-13) pulled 20-7 after one and led 39-15 at halftime en route to a 65-34 triumph.
South, which plays host to Wayne next Wednesday, shot 42% (25 for 57) from the floor in the contest and committed just seven turnovers.
Emilee Owens led the hosts with 19 points. She also pulled down five rebounds, as did teammates Regan Shockey and Auyner Joyce.
Farrah Yost finished with 12 points, Tae Richards netted 11 points and three steals and Joyce chipped in nine points. Shockey dished out a team-high five assists while Macy Singer contributed three steals.
The Bobcats (5-15), who had just three players get in the scoring column, got a game-high 25 points from Emma Krise, who was 14 for 18 at the free-throw line.
Ritchie County 66, Tyler Consolidated 56
ELLENBORO -- Ritchie County withstood a spirited rally by Tyler Consolidated, pulling away in the fourth quarter to claim a 66-56 victory Wednesday.
The host Rebels (12-4) led 23-14 after one but watched the Silver Knights cut it to 27-23 by halftime. TCHS outscored Ritchie 20-16 in the third to the game at 43-all with eight minutes to play. RCHS outscored the visitors 23-13 in the final stanza to secure the win.
Both teams combined for 66 total free-throw attempts with each side getting 33 shots from charity stripe -- Tyler made 23 while Ritchie knocked down 19.
Elsa Law led all scorers, pouring in 29 points for the Rebels to go along with nine rebounds, six assists and three steals. Chelsie Jeffrey added 13 points while Ava Satterfield scored seven of her nine points in the fourth quarter while Emily Bush tallied all eight of her points in the opening period.
Rae Rupert finished with game-highs of 11 rebounds and four steals to go along with four dimes. Satterfield chipped in six boards for Ritchie, which welcomes Williamstown to town Friday.
Tyler got 19 points from Rylin Henderson, who was 10 for 10 at the foul line. Taylor Donaldson added 14 points while Katie Grimm netted 12.
