ELLENBORO -- In a battle of local top 10 Class AA teams, it was Ritchie County which came away with a massive 45-30 win over Doddridge County Tuesday.
The No. 10 Rebels (9-4) led 11-7 after a quarter before limiting the No. 8 Bulldogs (9-3) to one point in the second for a 25-8 halftime advantage.
Doddridge never recovered.
"We played really good defense," said RCHS head coach Dave McCullough, whose team improved to 9-4. "We were able to get pressure and play good defense in the first half. That kind of made them uncomfortable offensively and made them rush for shots a bit."
Emily Bush led the Rebels, who visit Braxton County Thursday, with a career-high 11 points. Elsa Law added eight points, eight assists, six rebounds and six steals while Chelsie Jeffrey and Rae Rupert scored six points each. Rupert grabbed 15 boards while Jeffrey pulled down nine.
The Bulldogs got eight points from Aleigh Cheeseman.
"It's a big win," McCullough said. "It's big for our region. Having that head-to-head win -- you want to be one or two in your region so you don't have to travel. The last thing you want is a 2 ½ hour bus ride on a Thursday night."
Gilmer County 69, Trinity Christian 23
GLENVILLE - Trinity Christian felt the brunt of top-ranked Gilmer County as the Titans pitched a first-quarter shutout and posted a 69-23 win on Tuesday night.
Gilmer County (9-2) raced out to an 18-0 lead after one quarter then extended the gap to 45-7 by halftime.
The Titans made eight 3-pointers, including five from Lena Frymeier as part of her game-high 21 points. Teammate Ava Dobbins also finished in double figures with 12 points.
The game featured 11 made 3-pointers as Trinity'sKaylin Kurilko made two threes as part of her team-high 10 points.
Tyler Consolidated 53, Ravenswood 40
RAVENSWOOD - Ravenswood's struggles from the floor did not help matters as Tyler Consolidated defeated the Red Devilettes 53-40 on Tuesday night.
Ravenswood shot just 24% (12-of-50) from the floor.
Tyler Consolidated took control rom the start and led 11-2 after one quarter.
After halftime, Ravenswood put the pieces together and pulled ahead 38-33. Tyler, however, limited Ravenswood to two points in the final eight minutes for the 13-point win.
Katie Grimm led the Silver Knights with 25 points, while Jules Lattea tossed in another 12 points.
Ravenswood's Riley Street scored a team-high 16 points. Teammates Kadi Price (11) and Rachel Lambert (10) also finished in double figures.
BOYS
Frontier 62, Bridgeport 59
NEW MATAMORAS -- Down by six entering the fourth quarter, Frontier outscored visiting Bridgepor 24-15 over the final eight minutes to claim a 62-59 victory Tuesday at Hank Morus Gym.
Avery Powell led the Cougars (7-5) with 19 points. Kason Hoff added 12, True King netted 12 and Jacob Bowersock tallied 11 as part of a balanced Frontier attack.
FHS, which plays host to River today, trailed 25-19 after one, 32-25 at halftime and 44-38 after three.
St. Marys 65, Magnolia 63
NEW MARTINSVILLE -- St. Marys' Preston Lawhon scored a career-high 30 points to help lift visiting St. Marys past Magnolia 65-63 Tuesday.
Lawhon cashed in 12 field goals, including two 3-pointers, and was 4 for 6 at the free-throw line to lead the Blue Devils (4-9) in scoring. Ryan Kent added 17 points and nine rebounds for SMHS, which plays host to Williamstown Thursday, while Andre Anderson chipped in nine points.
The Devils trailed 17-15 after one but outscored the Blue Eagles 20-9 in the second to take a 35-26 halftime lead. Magnolia cut it to 47-41 by the start of the fourth, but St. Marys held on.
Kingston Christen scored a game-high 31 points to lead Magnolia. Dubale Greathouse added 23 points while Hunter Oates chipped in eight.
Southern 57, Wirt County 40
ELIZABETH -- Andre Chandler scored a game-high 28 points as Southern cruised past Wirt County 57-40 Tuesday.
Chandler knocked down four 3-pointers for the Tornadoes, who also got 11 points from Brandon Laudermilt and nine from Landon Everson.
SHS led 16-10 after one, 30-19 at halftime and 46-31 after three.
The Tigers' only double-digit scorers was Braylan Dawson, who had 10 points and three assists. Tyler Smith and Easton Wyer tallied eight points apiece, while Wyer also grabbed nine boards.
Doddridge County 57, Tyler Consolidated 46
KIDWELL -- Doddridge County remained perfect on the year with a 57-46 win over Tyler Consolidated Tuesday.
The Bulldogs led 16-15 after one, 25-23 at halftime and 42-38 after three, but outscored the Silver Knights 15-8 over the final eight minutes to improve to 10-0.
Blake Mitchell led DCHS with 16 points, followed by Jerod Trent's 12, Jaden Solomon's 10 and Landon Thomas' seven.
TCHS got 15 points from Brady Strode, 10 from Brody Giovinazzo, nine from Zayden Hardbarger and seven from Cole Lemasters.
Warren 73, Belpre 46
VINCENT -- Warren picked up its 10th win in a row Tuesday with a 73-46 triumph over Belpre at Warrior Coliseum.
Connor Barry scored a game-high 18 points for the Warriors, who improved to 15-2 with a trip to Bloom-Carroll set for Friday. Julian Stadelman added 17 points followed by 10 from Nick Cressey, eight from Hayden Wells and six each from Colin Anthony, Chase Lupardus and Tyson Cochran.
Belpre (7-8) was led by Malik Currie's 12 points. Chase Maze, Nasaih Spencer and Chris Copen all netted six.
The Golden Eagles, who were outscored 46-12 in the first half but outscored the Warriors 34-27 in the second half, are back in action Friday at home against Federal Hocking.
Herbert Hoover 49, Ripley 48
RIPLEY -- In a Class AAA showdown between the fourth- and seventh-ranked teams, visiting Herbert Hoover prevailed 49-48 over Ripley Tuesday.
The No. 4 Huskies (9-1) trailed 28-22 at halftime and 35-30 after three but outscored the No. 7 Vikings (9-3) 19-13 over the final eight minutes to escape with nail-biting victory.
Dane Hatfield double-doubled to lead Hoover, finishing with game-highs of 29 points and 11 rebounds. Donovan Brown added seven points and three steals.
Ripley, which heads to North Marion Saturday, got 15 points from Kyler Doss. Matthew Stellato added nine points while Zach Arnold and Blake Justice contributed seven apiece.
Roane County 54, Calhoun County 43
SPENCER -- Will Odle poured in a game-high 28 points to help power Roane County past visiting Calhoun County 54-43 Tuesday.
Tied at 14-all after one, the Raiders (3-7) outscored the Red Devils (3-7) 15-11 in the second to lead 29-25 at halftime and made that standup.
Cam Cumpston added 11 points for RCHS, which visits Gilmer today.
Calhoun, which plays host to Meadow Bridge Friday, for 19 points from Baron Davis and 10 from Brennen Carpenter.
