State champ Wahama well represented on All-LKC list

PARKERSBURG — Class A state champion Wahama cleaned up when it came to the gridiron awards for the single-A All-Little Kanawha Conference team.

White Falcon head man James Toth earned LKC Coach of the Year, while Wahama’s Connor Lambert and Ben Withrow were respectively honored as the LKC Offensive and Defensive Players of the Year.

Lambert entered the championship game with 2,217 yards rushing on just 134 carries (16.5 ypc) and 43 TDs. He also had 13 catches for 310 yards and six scores.

Withrow was at 98 total tackles with 26 solo. He also had an interception and a sack.

Lambert was joined at running back by Wirt County’s Brody Ewing, who averaged 8.7 ypc and scored 27 rushing touchdowns en route to 1,827 yards, which broke the school record of 1,661 set last fall by Chase Lowe.

Ewing’s teammate Tyler Smith was selected as the first team quarterback after completing 61% of his 169 passes that went for 1,959 yards with 25 touchdowns and nine interceptions.

Wirt County’s Porter Goodwin (43-1,059-16) and Wahama’s Wyatt Harris (13-310-4) were joined at wide receiver by Doddridge County’s Landon Thomas. The Bulldog had a dozen touchdown grabs on 47 receptions that covered 746 yards.

The first team offensive line consisted of Wahama’s Alijah Hicks, Wirt County’s Trevor Jones, Ritchie County’s Haiden Smith, Tyler Consolidated’s Garrett Bordenkircher and Webster County’s Jackie Ferguson.

The quartet of first team utility selections featured Tyler Consolidated’s Branson Winfrey, Doddridge County’s Jerod Trent, Ritchie County’s Turner Shriver and Rebel teammate Braiden Haught, who had a pair of touchbacks as a kicker and averaged 39.9 yards per punt while placing 27 inside the 20.

Shriver, who had 528 yards passing and three TDs, finished with 1,036 yards rushing and 15 touchdowns.

Winfrey had 208 carries, found paydirt 20 times and amassed 1,471 rushing yards. He had a pair of TD receptions.

Trent led the Bulldogs with 851 all-purpose yards. He had 31 catches for 744 yards and nine touchdowns.

Withrow was joined at linebacker on the first team by Doddridge County’s Brycen Eidel (135 TKL, 77 solo, 8 TFL, 4 FF), fellow White Falcon teammate Reezin Stitt (116 TKL, 45 solo, 2 INT, 1 sack, 4 FF) and Ritchie County’s CaDan Campbell, who had 58 stops, 35 solo, nine TFL, four sacks and one interception.

The first team defensive line featured St. Marys’ Brody Rice, Wirt County’s Kolton Toler, Doddridge County’s Samuel James and Wahama’s Seth Ohlinger, who had 58 tackles, 13 solo, six sacks and a forced fumble. Rice had 28 tackles, two for loss, recovered a fumble and blocked a punt.

Toler (49 TKL, 26 solo, 12 TFL, 3.5 sacks) also forced a pair of fumbles and had 25 quarterback hurries. James had 46 solo and seven stops for loss among his 81 tackles. The Bulldog had three sacks and as many forced fumbles.

Wahama’s Trace Simpkins (33 TKL, 2 INT), Wirt County’s Isaiah Sampson (49 TKL, 22 solo, 7 INT) and Calhoun County’s Brennen Carpenter, who had an interception, recovered a fumble, forced two and had 84 stops with 34 solo, were the defensive backs.

Calhoun County’s Logan Tingler was tabbed as punter after averaging 30 yards with a long of 52 and four placed inside the 20.

First team defensive utility spots went to St. Marys’ Ryan Kent, Tyler Consolidated Reese Davis and Doddridge County’s Talyn Snyder.

Snyder had 102 total tackles, including 66 solo, and eight for loss. Davis had 19 receptions for 619 yards and seven TDs. Kent, who led the Blue Devils with 972 all-purpose yards, defended eight passes.

The second team offense featured Tyler Consolidated QB Brady Strode, RBs Lyric Blake of Doddridge County and Jonah Hamilton of Ritchie County, O-linemen Jacob Britton of Doddridge County, Eli Wilson of St. Marys, Brier Gray of Gilmer County, James Sonju of Ritchie County and Nicolis Butler of Calhoun County. Tyler Consolidated’s Bo Tallman, Webster County’s Sammy Vanover and Gilmer County’s Troy Rose were the receivers. The utility picks went to Doddridge County’s Brysen Dixon, Webster County’s Isaac Snyder and Gilmer County’s Rodney McCord. Elise Moll of Webster County was the kicker.

Four defensive linemen – Ritchie County’s Chase Morris, Tyler Consolidated’s Nate Deaton, Calhoun County’s Kristian Frederick and Webster County’s Kenneth Kronenburg – were joined on the second team by five linebackers – Wirt County’s Chase Mills, Webster County’s Kaleb Amos, Calhoun County’s Rome Riddel, Gilmer County’s Zach Wine and Ritchie County’s Tony McBrayer.

Second team defensive back spots went to Tyler Consolidated’s Gideon Winfrey, Wahama’s Richard Jordan and Webster County’s Mylo Rivera. Wahama’s Jake Roberts, Gilmer County’s Rico Schoolcraft and Webster County’s Isaac Cutlip were the utility picks. Brandon Davis of Doddridge County was the punter.
