Roundup: Brayden Jones sets school record in Marietta win
BLACKSVILLE — Brayden Jones put together a night to remember Friday to lead Marietta past Clay-Battelle, 112-40.
Jones knocked down 13 3-pointers to score a boys school-record 49 points, breaking Ben Howlett’s mark of 48 set in 2005. Jones was 13 for 19 from beyond the arc on a night where Marietta made 20 treys as a team and shot 60% (42 for 70) from the floor.
Braiden Plaugher hit four shots from deep and added 14 points to the orange and black attack. Trey Hawkins scored 10 points while Junior Bass chipped in nine. Owen Riley, who had a team-high eight rebounds and five assists, netted eight points.
Seth Britton also had five dimes to go along with a team-best four steals.
MHS is now 5-0 and will take on Belpre next Friday in the River City High School Classic at Marietta College.
Ritchie County 73, Wirt County 48
ELIZABETH — Seth Cronin poured in a career-high 38 points to lift Ritchie County past Wirt County 73-48 Friday.
Cronin knocked down 10 3-pointers in the contest. The Rebels (2-) led 15-11 after a quarter and 26-23 at halftime, but outscored the Tigers (0-4) 47-25 in the second half.
Isaac Hodges fell two assists shy of a triple-double for RCHS, finishing with 21 points, 15 rebounds, eight dimes, three steals and three blocks.
Braylan Dawson paced the Tigers with 22 points.
Ritchie visits Braxton County Monday while Wirt plays host to Gilmer County next Friday.
Pendleton County 61, Parkersburg Catholic 56
PARKERSBURG — Tied at 48-all headed into the final quarter Friday night, Pendleton County outscored Parkersburg Catholic 13-8 over the final eight minutes to capture a 61-56 victory.
The Wildcats took a 36-28 lead into halftime before the Crusaders rallied to tie it by the end of the third.
Chase Owens led all scorers with 25 points for Pendleton. He was a perfect 10 for 10 at the free-throw line. Josiah Kimble added 13 points while Cashton Kisamore chipped in nine for the Wildcats.
Landon Edwards led Catholic with 19 points followed by Leonardo DeAngelo with 16 and Branson Lott with 10.
Meigs 86, Belpre 57
POMEROY, Ohio — Reed Brinager tallied a game-high 28 points and three of his teammates scored in double figures as well as Meigs bested Belpre 86-57 in a battle of unbeatens Friday night.
The Marauders (7-0) saw Carson Davis (18 points), Cayden Gheen (15) and Dustin Vance (13) all reached double-digits. MHS pulled ahead 23-7 after the first quarter and never looked back.
The Golden Eagles, who dropped to 4-1, were paced by Chris Copen’s 23 points. Malik Currie added 11 while Carson Moore scored nine on three 3-pointers.
GIRLS BASKETBALL
St. Marys 74, Tyler Consolidated 26
ST. MARYS – Brynnley Bulluck filled up the stat sheet here Friday night during St. Marys’ 74-26 Little Kanawha Conference victory versus Tyler Consolidated, which trailed 34-6 at intermission.
Along with going for game-highs of 25 points, seven steals and five assists, Buckley also grabbed 10 rebounds to join teammate Anna Bennett, who had 12 points and a game-high 11 caroms, with a double-double.
Callie Powell added 20 points and Landrey Riggs chipped in nine for the now 4-1 Blue Devils, who return to action at 1 p.m. next Saturday when Gilmer County invades.
Faith Lemasters tallied eight points and Jules Lattea had six for the Silver Knights.
