Tigers fall to Cavaliers in district final
LOGAN, Ohio — Marietta’s bid for back-to-back district championships fell one win short.
Carter Dunfee and Aidan Fischer scored two goals apiece to lead Chillicothe to a 4-0 victory over the Tigers in Saturday’s Division III district final at Logan High School.
The Tigers finished the 2024 season with a 14-4-2 record.
Dunfee’s first goal came at the 8:04 mark in the first half off a corner kick by Isaac Herlihy. It was the Cavaliers’ (15-3) fourth corner of the half and they finally got one to pay off.
Marietta came out aggressive in the second half and had multiple scoring chances but came up empty.
At the 36:07 mark, Dunfee struck again with an unassisted goal to give CHS a two-goal lead.
Four minutes later, the Tigers came inches away from getting one of those goals back. Landon Koscho’s free kick was right on the money, but Chillicothe keeper Landon Mautz timed his jump perfectly and got his fingertips on the ball, deflecting it off the crossbar to preserve his team’s lead.
When Fischer got his first goal with 28:44 remaining, the Cavaliers could taste the district title, and when he found the back of the net again with 11:08 on the clock, it all but sealed the deal.
Mautz finished with six saves while Tiger keeper Finn Tindall tallied five.
Chillicothe will take on Steubenville at 6 p.m. Wednesday in Athens for the regional semifinal.
Marietta graduates a nine-man senior class that includes Landon Koscho, Ronnie Limegrover, Johnny Crosby, Cameron Davis, Collin Davis, Josh Fournier, Hunter Klein, Ojash Gautam and Dominick Barengo.
